So I'm looking into options for as lightweight as possible, yet somewhat decent gaming laptop, and I'm trying to trim as much weight off as possible but I noticed no one seems to ever talk about batteries, and a pound off is a pound off, and it's weight at the farthest point from where I usually lift them at the front, so it's extremely noticeable. Usually I only need my battery to last a whole 2 minutes, maybe 10 minutes in a bad situation if I move from room to room? under light to no load really, or to just fill in for a second if my power cord gets ripped out so I don't get it shut down. So, I don't quite need a regular 8 cell or especially not an extended bulky battery, but I've never seen slim batteries, you know, something that's just the casing with maybe 1, or 2 cells? It's possible I'm just not looking for the right keywords, but I can't seem to find anything like this. Does it just not exist? I'm tempted to just try my DIY hand at repacking a laptop battery, but I've seen what happens when they go critical and I don't want that happening on my lap considering I have some basic electronics knowledge but I doubt enough to really accomplish an internal gutting and rewiring.

Does not exist, the point of having a battery in a laptop has always been to be able to use it when you don't have access to an outlet, there really wouldn't be a market for this. Even the lightweight and thin laptops sacrifice in other areas in order to keep room for the battery. Just take a look at the inside of a macbook pro retina and you'll know what i mean. Besides, in a gaming laptop, the battery really isn't the main source of weight. Battery tech has been somewhat stagnant for a couple of years which didn't help.

Well I guess I just never really did mind having a power brick and being plugged in around the house. Gaming laptop isn't something I would look to hauling around places, or even for extended battery life, you measure it in minutes even with a fully charged battery on these things usually if you actually game, not hours, so to me it seemed like the batteries in these things were more like power conditioning for when my cord got kicked out of the back rather than mobility factors. And it's not the main source of weight, but if you can knock off 10 to 20% of the weight of the thing, seemed like someone would have made a niche out of producing 1 cell batteries since laptop gaming is a niche already.

What was true before, no longer is. Even on my battery vampire G73JH, i can get a little over 3 hours with one charge on a new battery. THe new Clevo ad Alienwares all support switchable graphics which actually put the battery life in the over 4 hour range when not gaming of course, but who would game on battery. Still, provided you have the room for it, you can take a recent 17" gaming laptop on the go and it will last a full lecture or two. A niche in a niche isn't something most manufacturers will be willing to invest into either.
