How do you use your notebook?

The most essential obviously is a good carrying case and a mouse.

Possibly an external hard-drive if you have a lot of data (with those fast college networks you might).

Get an extra or extended life battery for typing your papers outside of your room. You def need a USB mouse. No question. It also wouldnt hurt to have a wireless card (if you dont already have one).

Docking station...especially if you have a lot of peripherals.
    Cable lock.
External hard drive (back up important school files...I've had a drive go south before).
Extra battery if your notebook has so-so battery life.
    Printer & Scanner
    WiFi ability is a must

    Mouse w/ mouse pad
Printer - I would recommend a laser... how many college courses require color prints?
    Speakers
HEADPHONES - both to block out noise and to not disturb your roommate
Cable lock, although I never used mine
    Carrying case

Cable lock - its connected now, but never used for protection (thats what im for..)
Printer - Get an all in one, so you can scan and print (Costco usually has sales on them before leaving for College in the summer)
Speakers- ooh tough one, either get 2.1 or be all out and get 5.1. But get something with some base as there will be times where it is useful.
Headphones- get a good pair, no crap ones (I got Sennheiser HD580's work really well)
Case- something that works, get something durable if your taking it to class.
Notebook Cooler - does help, as most of the time the notebook will be in area with not much airflow.
External Drive - get a BIG one, 100-200GB, depending on how decent your network is. There usually are share groups in the colleges you go to, so Externals are useful.
Mouse - cable or USB, your choice.

Depending on how your Notebook is used, most colleges will have LAN ports in the dorm rooms. With most notebooks you get wifi, so thats a second option.
