    Hello,

I'm looking for a notebook mouse and don't know which model I should take.

I found those two mice at the same price, one on the dell.ca website and the other on ebay.ca (from a 100% rating power-seller). There are a few things I would like to know from owners of one of these mice.

About the Anywhere MX, there is set by default a "Application Switcher" button to the tiny button under the scroll wheel while the scroll wheel button itself allows to switch the wheel mode. Is there any way with the setpoints software (or the uberoptions extension) to reprogram the scroll wheel click or is it mechanic? I really want my scroll wheel button to act (as usual) as a middle click button (and not a wheel mode switching or whatever else). I would also reprogram the tiny button under the scroll wheel to switch the wheel mode. Please confirm if this is possible. If so, I think this is the mouse I will buy.

If not, I'm looking for the M705 that has a normal middle-click on the scoll wheel with a button under it to change the wheel mode (that's the way I want the Anywhere MX). But I've heard (and seen) that the button under the scroll wheel is a little bit high and too easy to hit when scrolling down, etc. Any owner can comment?

Sorry for my English, I'm French canadian. Thank you very much for your help!

The middle task switcher button is programmable to any function you like. As far as the wheel button, it actually only has one non programmable function, it changes the scrolling from click detented to smooth hyper fast scrolling. There is no way to change that, it’s mechanical.

I am very happy with the anywhere mouse. I have one at home, spare laptop, and at work. They are built solid, have a quality feel to them. I was a bit annoyed by the wheel button not being a middle click, but after a while I go used to it, you can always program the middle button to perform the same function.

it comes with software. you can program every button to anything you want. I've played with the performance mx and it feels amazing in your hand.

Thanks for your answers. I'm not looking for the Performance MX btw. It's more a desktop mouse than a laptop mouse. As I see, there's nothing to do with the scroll wheel click on the Anywhere because it's mechanical. What a bad idea, why don't try to get everyone happy with a real programmable button?

Anyone has the M705? Even if I can get used to the middle click under the scroll wheel, my desktop mouse at home is a Roccat Kone which works as every mouse is supposed to. It will be hard to adapt myself withthe 2 mice at the same time. I'm only using the middle click to open and close Firefox tabs. I think I'm going to put a fake button under the scroll wheel of my Kone just to see if it could suit me.

othonda, what about battery life? it uses 2 AA batteries like the M705 but Logitech says 6 months for the Anywhere and 36 months for the Marathon M705. big difference to justify the Darkfield captor that I don't even need?

in short, I'm looking for a small sized comfortable mouse that will last at least 5-6 months on batteries. the 4-way and hyper-fast scrolling are two nice features and I also like the pouch the Anywhere MX comes to. I guess there are also other alternatives? At first, I thought that finding a mouse suiting my needs for my laptop would be very easy. But it looks like there is in fact nothing perfect actually.

I've also looked at the Razer alternative which doesn't fit my needs at all. The Logitech B605 doesn't come with a pouch and doesn't have any extra feature, but it would get the job done. Anything else? Anyone? I cannot believe there isn't ONE great laptop mouse in this world.

I've been using AnywhereMX with 1 rechargeable Eneloop battery (2000mah)
with usage of 10-14 hrs/day average, it can last for around 2-3 weeks.

I'm using another battery for continues usage so it's good enough for me :D
and I love the weight ! 2 AA batteries are just too heavy for me

Middle click for opening/closing tab on firefox?
if I were you I'll be using the left-right scroll since I rarely use them :)

I'd personally go for the Logitech VX revolution (Anywhere MX's predecessor) as opposed to the MX itself.

the reason being that in terms of functionality, the VX revolution stills retains the SmartShift Gear mechanism which is very useful; something that was lost in translation when Logitech released it successor - the Anywhere MX.

the only good thing about the MX is its Darkfield technology which means you can use the mouse on any surface without tracking performance being affected. Heck, you could even use it on a pane of glass with no deterimental side effects.

    Mice

comparing these two, i'd definitely go with the marathon m705

but in all honesty, i would spend a little more and get the best, the performance mx, (ive been using the vx nano, which should be the same size as the two mice that you listed, and it's just too small and uncomfortable, and i have small hands, my palm is resting more on the mousepad than on the mouse..)

also, i prefer non-ambidextrous mice, and most people probably should, since most people are not ambidextrous

I have to agree for the ambidextrous thing. My Cooler Master Sentinel Advance and Roccat Kone are both non-ambidextrous. However, the Performance MX is really too big. I have a 13" laptop with a ULV processor. The little bag can fit a small mouse, the laptop itself and the 2.5" external HDD, RJ45 cables or power adapter, but nothing more, it's slim.

I'm using my laptop mainly at school for Microsoft Word or just internet (Firefox) purposes. At home, I have a last generation o/c 4 GHz quad-core to do all the big stuffs. However, I'm also using my laptop in my bed to watch youtube or HD movies on the network, which doesn't need any external mouse.

The VX nano: no middle-click on the scroll wheel.

No info on the Anywhere battery? Some users reporting it's not lasting really long. I would be using the mouse about 20 hours per week.

M705 looks finally too big to fit my bag. Argh...
M305 is optical, M505 is laser but no carrying pouch available.
Why the hell Logitech didn't put a f******* button under that scroll wheel?

I've owned the VX revolution, VX nano, Marathon m705 and currently own and use the Anywhere Mouse.

I think you got confused with the middle click button. The Application Switcher button is NOT the middle click button. There IS a middle click button under the scroll wheel. There is even a functionality from the VX Revo and VX Nano to have a smoother scroll

The VX revolution is out of production. If you don't like the Anywhere Mouse I recommend that you get the VX Nano (soon to be out of production). If you like a small mouse then you won't like the Marathon as it is around 40% more in size compared to the VX Nano and Anywhere Mouse.

The battery life on the Anywhere Mouse will vary obviously on the battery you use. For the first few months, I used the Energizer Ultimate batteries that lasted for more than three months - I never turned off the mouse. More recently, I use an Energizer rechargeable 2450Mah pair that has a max life of 23 days - again without turning off the mouse.

I got confused with what you said LOL..
what dnLL meant is he wants middle click beneath the scroll wheel,
and VX nano & AnywhereMX don't have it there. But yes, you can use Application switcher button to do middle click.

I can't recommend the Anywhere MX enough. Great little mouse that just oozes quality. You need to hold one in your hands to really understand the great build quality of the thing. I wrote a mini-review a while back, if you're interested in reading it: Anywhere MX Mini-Review. Hope it helps.

Sorry to revive such an old thread but I didn't want to make a new post for this. Does anyone have a size comparison between the MX Anywhere mouse and the M705? I am considering the M705 because of longer battery life and its on sale right now for 30 dollars on Amazon. Is the M705 much bigger than the MX Anywhere? Any help appreciated, thanks.

If you have a big-box office supply store (Staples, Office Max, etc) near you, they should have both available on the shelf for you to look at directly.
