Yes, I know I made a headphones thread a few weeks back, however I really am stuck for choice between these two now and I need your help.
Basically I'm now in the market for some surround sound gaming headphones. I've narrowed my choice down pretty much to the two above (Logitech G35 or Razer Megalodon), and I really am stuck for choice between them.
Let me say what I'm looking for:
- Firstly, Price is not a concern. The difference is between £90 for G35s or £115 for the Megalodon. All I care about is which one performs best overall.
- I am looking for great in game sound (obviously). This is my highest priority.
- I'm also looking for great music/video quality as well. When I play my music, I want a nice listening experience. The audio quality for music might just sway me either way, although it won't if one of the headphones are significantly better for games than the other.
That's about it really. I want the best gaming performance, and if they're very similar then it comes down to the general music audio quality. I've seen very balanced reviews all over the internet, some sites rating the G35s higher and others the Megalodon, so I'm really not sure which one to go for.
I AM still open to other suggestions for headphones, but they MUST be USB with their own built in sound card. As I'm on a laptop, I can't get a good soundcard without going external which I really don't want to do. A microphone (or lack thereof) makes no difference to me; I very rarely use voicechat in games. It'd be an added bonus if they were compatible with an Xbox 360 as well, but I will not accept lower quality headphones for this luxury. I don't have a particular budget but I don't want to pay much further than the Razer.
And so...debate away. I'm ordering in about 5-7 days so I need this decision made fast. I'll likely get a chance to try out the G35s for myself (a friend has a pair) in the coming days, but not the Megalodon. I'd love it if I could get a word in from someone who has used/tried both.
Thanks in advance to anyone who posts an opinion on the matter. I really do need help deciding.

I like my G35s. The sound quality is sufficient for me, mic is good, the side buttons are nice, and the isolation is good.
I'm selling an extra pair btw... but you're not US :[ -
I vote for the Megalodon. I've been using its stereo version, the Carcharias, for several months. It sounds fantastic in games, but I use them for listening to music on the computer as well, as well as movies and other stuff.

Psykos all the way! theres alot of reviews out there,, i think u may need a soundcard im not 100% they are pricey,, but they look freakin awesome
-
At the moment...Ugh, I really don't know. Like I said earlier...some reviews find the Megalodon to be marginally superior in sound quality, some find the G35 to be superior in other factors, I've read a few that find the G35 better in sound as well, and others that find the Megalodon better all around.
The problem really is there are very few people that seem to have used both. They're the people that I really need to hear from; particularly because I seem to be finding more dual reviews that favour the G35s. -
wel if they are close together,, either get the one thats cheaper, or looks better.

On a serious note, have you used the G35 before? -
I tried them once on a friend's computer at a LAN party. They definitely sound good. I can't comment on the mic quality, as I didn't get a chance to play with that, but the games sounded great. The G35 was a bit more bass-heavy than my Carcharias, which may suit some players better. I honestly couldn't tell the difference in terms of sound direction from my stereo Carcharias, though, so I guess the whole concept of a surround headset is lost on me. I never have any trouble telling where a sound is coming from as it is.

g35- hot, tight, heavy, good sound
Megalodon- open air (not my preference but others like it), light, comfy, great mic, great for gaming decent for music, expensive -

my g35 has never been tight. hot? i dunno they get warm but not uncomfortable temp.
heavy... Really? i guess i have a strong neck?
for the megalodon they are a great headset that sound very close to the g35 so i can understand why your having trouble choosing. the thing i dont like about the megalodon (putting aside the open ear style) is that they feel a little frail and almost like it it would break if you dropped it. i would go with the g35 if i was you since i love them so much but honestly i think youll be fine going with whichever is cheaper. On that note i think the g35 is on sale at bestbuy for $99 if you live near one. -
I can definitely vouch for the Megalodon/Carcharias design surviving more than its fair share of drops. I swear, you'd think my desk is on a downhill slope.
-
so how do you like the logitechs so far? Im still trying to decide which i want to get... IM debating on whether i want to spend the big bucks and get real surround with the psykos,,, or settle for the cheaper fake surround.

Man just get analog headphones, screw those crappy usb headphones its not going to be as good and great as dj headphones etc..
Logitech G35 or Razer Megalodon?
