I ordered a notebook for college, and I plan to do some gaming on my free time (if I have any   ). I've read the post "good gaming mice" and narrowed it down to these two mice. Anyways, I was wondering which of these two you think is more suitable for me.

    Stuff about me  :

-I'm going to be playing CS and WoW.

-Currently with my desktop, I have a Logitech MX500, which has served me well in the past few years, but the left-click button is starting to fade in functioning.

-The real turnoff for me on the G5 is the lack of the MOUSE5 button, but I have also read that Copperhead's thumb buttons feel flimsy (truth? ).

-I plan to play without a mousepad on my wooden desk. So which of the two performs better, if there even is a difference.

-Mouse feet, do they last long on no mousepad? My MX500's teflon feet came off a few months after I bought it, not cool.

...So what do you guys recommend? For people who've tried both, your feedback is very valuable to me.

i would say the copperhead as far as performance goes. imo it is the perfect mouse. i have yet to use the g5 but i do own a g7. i love the g7 almost as much as the copperhead but the only reason is cause its wireless.

I've only used G5, but I would go for the Copperhead. It's a far more professional mice. I don't particularly like the G5, the weight cartridges, and adjustable DPI just seem fiddly and unecessary. In CS, the seven programmable buttons on the Copperhead will be invaluable.

Truthfully, I would spend the extra and buy a Wireless G7. However, if it is between these two I still go for Logitech. In addition to awesome support (My sub on my Z5300e speakers failed, and Logitech sent me a new set at no charge), my buddy owns a G5 and it is a very nice mouse. The on-the-fly DPI switch is a neat feature, and I personally like to have the ability to change heft.

/vote DeathAdder because it has the bigger more Microsoft-ish ergonomic shape

What type of sensitivity do you usually play with (high, mid or low)? I'd recommend to not go with either if you're a mid or low sensitivity player because of how low the malfunction speed is on laser mice. For raw performance in readily available mice, the Logitech MX518 beats out everything. However, I think using the mouse without a pad severely hurts you and your investment. You should pick up a cheap cloth pad at least. Also, avoid wireless mice (even the Logitech G7) if you plan to do "serious" gaming due to the lag that comes with them. But, in all seriousness, many other mice not listed as "gaming" mice can work very well and are typically far cheaper, like Microsoft Optical IntelliMouse 1.1 or 3 for example.

Given your current situation, the Logitech G5 wins due to your familiarity with the design and its larger mouse feet which should survive longer without a pad. There is also a "revised" version of the Logitech G5 that is out now with two side buttons, by the way. And, the Razer Copperhead is a great mouse but the side buttons are in an awkward spot for many.

Personally, I'm currently using a revised Logitech G5 mainly because the material it's made out of doesn't build up my dead skin and sweat like other mice do. I'm lazy and don't like cleaning mice... Also, I'm a high sensitivity player so I'll never reach the malfunction speed unless I play skee ball with it. In the past, I've tried out the Logitech MX500, Razer Diamondback and Microsoft Habu.

i do agree with that. the buttons are really in a wierd spot. kinda messes me up but i dont really use the dpi switching feature. i think i use it more with my g7 cause the buttons are in such a better spot.

They work just fine for me, or rather then I had my CopperHead - I really liked how it had so many freakin buttons - but i definitely like the DeathAdder better because I like the ergonomics of it better - more Microsoft-y

From what I hear, lag is a nil-factor on the new G7's. Nevertheless, I'll be able to tell you shortly, as mine arrives today.

Thanks for all the replies guys. I decided to order a revised G5 off of Amazon for $50 ($70 MSRP).

kappa.squared, I am now contemplating on buying a mousepad with my G5. What do you use/recommend?

Glad I could help you decide on what mouse to get, and that's a great deal!

Anyways, what mousepad suits you is based on a few factors... You're getting a laser mouse so stick to darker surfaces and stay away from anything reflective like iCEMATs or SteelPads. I assume you're a relatively high sensitivity player which means you don't need a lot of room which is beneficial in a college dorm atmosphere. So, you're down to small cloth and plastic pads. I've heard good things about fUnc, X-raypads, XTRAC pads, CorePads and the Razer eXact mats (in no particular order). Keep in mind that most of these (especially the plastic ones) will be labeled as either "smooth" or "rough." Based on if you like more glide or tactile feedback will narrow that down for you (most come with both though; one on each side).

Personally, I use a fUnc sUrface 1030 on the "smooth" side. It's small and it's held in a rubber base which doesn't irritate my wrist. Works excellent for me, but I don't believe it's made anymore so it might be hard to find... Hope that helps!

For "serious" gaming (especially FPS), I think it would be best to stray away from any kind of lag possible even if it is barely noticeable. Still, I can't deny the convince of being wireless.

I've never found max DPI to be that important. Once you get passed 1600 DPI it gets a bit ridiculous imo, heh.

I must say, been using it for an hour and there is no lag whatsoever. Just like wired.

I have the G7 its great, no problems and it was on sale and may still be for just over 50$.

Now for wired mice... Id recomend the Mx518 actually, its like the new G5 but feels better to me and is cheaper.

This is definitly a usb port issue then, maybe you dont have it set to usb 2.0 or it has some other issues.

But for sure thats not a mouse issue, and the fault lies somewhere in your pc.
