Hi, I currently have the G5 Laser mouse (first generation one, only 1 side button), and I was thinking of getting the G7 because it was wireless?

    My question(s) are
1.) Is it worth buying it?

2.) How different is it besides being wireless?

3.) Any other brands that are better than G5 or G7 gaming laser mice?

If you're a gamer, I highly recommend not getting wireless.

You wont want to be charging the battery every day or two.

    I returned my G7 for a mx518! I love the adjustable DPI on the mx518 which G7 doesn't have.

What will you do with your G5 if you bought a G7?

That is incorrect sir. The G7 has 5 fully programmable (in 50 dpi increments) and adjustable DPI, on the fly.

I have a G5 and I do not believe it is worth to upgrade to the G7.

And both the G5 and G7 have fully adjustable DPI control and on the fly settings as well on the mouse itself.

I just bought a Razer Deathadder and I love it. Extremetech gave it as high of a rating as the G5 and I think it looks better as well.

1-if you have a notebook then I say stay with the g5 cuz the distance is to short and instead of having less thing around you you'll have more (if you choose the g7)
if you have a desktop then go with the g7 wireless is always better in desktop

    2-I think is the same

3-don't now but microsoft is also good

I wouldn't go wireless. It's very fiddly. You need to plug the reciever into the USB port. Then you have to plug into AC power, and then only then can you get going. With the G5, you just plug it in, and its done. It's more simpler, and more reliable.

Wireless gets a bad name from bad wireless mice. The G7 is the best wireless mouse I have ever used and it does not feel like it is wireless at all (trust me, I have tons of other wireless mice I have tried all to be shoved away since they have lag that I can notice, but the G7 has none of it).

I love the G7 and the freedom without cords. The hotswap batteries are also easy to do on the fly and I can "reload" one in an instant without even looking now while I am gaming.

For all you mouse afficianados (think thats the right spellin ;) ), what the heck is the use of adjustable dpi? Cause i thought the dpi was equal to the resolution, or the accuracy. Is it the sensitivity? Through the years the dpi has only been increasing, so why go back? Please tell me!

me to, it's great the freedom that it gives you.
In my opinion is great for a desktop cuz the mouse and the usb ports are not that close, but in a notebook i think I would prefer a g5 cuz it's a very short distance so i'd be point less to buy a g7 for 5 in of freedom

I have the G5 Mx-518 and recently, the G7. I use all depending on the situation. The G7 breaks all the rules when it comes to delay's and lag in wireless. It truly is amazing in every way!! You should try it before commenting. The battery swap is almost instantaneously, 2K DPI, a laser mouse, more accurate than any optical out there. You can also see the dpi and battery levels which is great. The G5 is a great mouse but wires with mouse is a pain for me. I have a problem as i'm very sensitive with how it feels in my hand and when the cable pulls and pushes on me using, The G7 is the bomb. Wires are so yesterday..get with it guys ;)

Please check before posting. No AC for G7. It comes with the charging base which handles one battery and a slot of the reciever, then the base connects to one of the USB ports. While you're using one battery, the other is charged.

    and more reliable.
Compared to the G7 is false. the G7 has been used by many people without troubles.

I said this in another thread that Ill repeat here.

I would strongly recommend a wire mouse if you go to lan parties or live in an area with high WiFI density. The G7 will have intereference issues.

In terms of lag though there isnt much if any at all from what I experienced when using it.

If you are playing a FPS game you can lower the dpi and get a much more accurate and sensitive feel is you are doing a long range shot. At high dpi it is much harder to focus in on your target, it's too sensitive.

It already went up to 57$ for the G7 sale... I figured it was the best wireless mouse there is and would have to settle for it, so went to get it on sale and it was 57$.... still much better than the 99$ it was tho so I guess I cant complane.

I just wish there was a wireless MX518 tho... the thumb buttons are much better than a tilt wheel.

I wouldn't get it, but for different reasons, I love how G7 doesn't use any power cords/adapters for charging but seriously until Logitech adds another, forward button to it, I'm not getting it, once they add it, I'll buy one.

I was saying the same thing because I use the forward/back on the mx518 for web browsing and the middle button on the top for application/window close. It really speeds up web surfing.

Then in games I use the 2 side buttons all the time, usually in fps games one is crouch and the other is prone. In other games maybe I'll toggle it to voice chat.

However what somebody told me yesterday and what changed my mind is that you can still do the forward/back thing in web surfing with the tilt wheel. When I got to use one hands on today I liked the way the tilt wheel felt, it was very sold and clicked not soft like other mice. So I decided i can live wit it.

However still side buttons are better, atleast for games, you can hold them and still use the finger buttons on the top of the mouse but holding the tilt wheel and pressing the buttons will be kind of akward.

one cool think with the tilt wheel would be binding it for peek around walls in fps games that have that.

seriously tho why didnt they put the 2 side buttons like the 518??? everybody liked it and it couldnt have been too hard to add it on.

After getting used to it im sure the G7 will be very close to the 518. Its now got a tilt wheel instead of the side button (not sure if the wheel still clicks in as a button, mines new in the box and im waiting for my notebook to use it)

Reminds me of sony. They have good features in one model but the new upgraded has great features but lacks the ones in the previous models..how retarded..

wouldn't you ALWAYS want the highest dpi possible?

i think it would be a better solution to keep the dpi at the maximum and bring the sensitivity in the software...

I dont always like the high dpi, if you turn the highest dpi and then turn down the sensitivity the cursor speed may be the same, but you just handicaped yourself because now if you want a very fast cursor speed you cant get it.

plus there is no way humanly concievable that you can tell the difference from say 1500dpi and 2000dpi if you turn down the sensitivity to match the scroll speed. we are talking movements soooo small that you just cant possibly tell.
