For any of you out there who have experience with both the Logitech G7 and VX revolution, what were the trade-offs between these two models?

Newegg.com user reviews of the G7.
Examples for comparison include:
- Wireless signal stability/responsiveness (lag)
- Durability: Do the buttons/wheel maintain smooth action as time goes on?
- Setup: Is the software provided annoying to use?
- Portability: Which would you carry around with a laptop?
- Power maintenance: Changing/charging frequency/ease?
- Suitable for at least casual FPS gaming?
- Various other problems/qualities.
I've read a number of reviews and comments on both mice from this site, and understand that both are pretty good models. I'm just trying to make an informed decision as to which I will settle on, while also getting more info on 2 of the better wireless mice offered out here on the forum. I have seen other posters wondering themselves on which to choose... let's have any thoughts.

Go with the VX. I love mine and have gotten many compliments!
-
I've never used the G7 but I have the VX and love it. I won't use anything else.
-
I was under the impression that the G-series is meant for gaming, whereas the VX Series is meant more for productivity. I mean, the VX works for gaming, but there are some buttons on the moust that don't do anything in game and can't be mapped, from what I've read.
-
Exactly. I use the G7 and it's been with me for a couple of months now. There is no lag issue due to the wireless connectivity. It fits my hand perfectly. I paired it with Razer's exactmat mousepad and it works extremely well with it. I've tried using Diamondback and Copperhead from Razer before. I think this one is way better.

Mr._Kubelwagen More machine now than man
I say go into Best Buy and try them both out, to see which one you like best. I've personally got a G7, and I love it, but I've also heard great things about the VX.
-
I couldn't agree more. Choosing the best mouse is actually very subjective. It all actually depends on what works best for you and not for other people. Some even do very well already with cheap optical mice. So just ask yourself want you want. If you really want optimum accuracy, gor for a laser mouse. Whether it be a cordless or a corded one, already depends on how you behave when you game. Between the copperhead and the G7, there's no telling the difference. Its all on what feels better for you. The VX also is an excellent mouse. Though it's not titled as a gaming mouse, it still does pretty well when you game it. It would be best to see them personally and try to know which mouse fits your needs better.
-
I really like the G7 for what it gives you. For casual gaming, it seems the VX is sufficient. But I really like some of the features built into the VX like the scroll, zoom, and lookup features (if I'm remembering them correctly). I also really like the look and apparent fit of the VX.
Personally, for on-the-go usage, I don't take my G7 with me anymore. I have a Razer Copperhead in my bag now--and it's much easier to just plug in a wired mouse when I'm away from my desk than to worry about battery life.
As mentioned, it really comes down to what you need the mouse to do for you. These mice were designed with different end users in mind. -
You're right. Many people think that because of the "wireless" feature it becomes better in portability. If your a gamer who likes to play anywhere, a corded mouse would be best.
-
VX because its super light
The only down side about VX is if you use it a lot, then you have to change battery every 1 and half month to 2.
I always forget to turn off my mouse before I sleep which drains the battery faster. -
I prefer the Razer products personally. They seem to fit my hand better. But like its been said before, its all very subjective. I went to best buy and played with all of them before I made a decision. Thats the best advice when buying a mouse IMO, because it doesn't matter how much DPI it has or what kind of engine it uses if its not comfortable for you.

Rechargeable batteries are really a nice plus. And the fact that the G7 comes with two is even better since you no longer have to deal with downtime if the battery runs out like you do with other rechargeable mice. -
That's a good point. I didn't know that the VX comes with AA batteries. I thought its batteries were the same with my G7. In that case, the G7 would be the more gaming-friendly cordless mouse.
-
It would suck if you were in the middle of say...Counter-Strike and the battery died.
-
I bought the VX today and am not dissapionted. Non lag problems yet. Though some of the buttons aren't configurable in games and the wheel click is bad.
-
I have a Logitech MX1000, and works great in gaming. I say go for the MX. I've never used the G series mouses, but the VX mouses have more features.
-
-
Can I ask why specifically are you going for wireless? How about the G5?
Personally I prefer to G7 better because of its size. I have relatively large hands and the VX is too small (though the MX is a good size). -
I have the VX and I love it. It's a really light mouse.
-
The G7 and G5's differences are barely noticeable. It may be easy to note these differences on a piece of paper, but once you start playing, I don't think one would notice any difference at all. The only difference worth mentioniing is the wire.
For portability, the corded one is better.
For home use, "wireless" is the best!
This is just my opinion. Some may not agree. -
Hello
I just got a MX Revolution today after my love towards VX Revolution
And I must say, this mouse is very kool, very comfortable and very advance. I think people should buy MX revolution instead of the G5 - G7.
I'll write a review soon. -
What would be the significant differences that made your new mouse better than your previous?
-
Does the VX interfere with WIFI?
-
Further to a previous post, the VX is not preferable for anything more serious than casual gaming because buttons cannot be mapped?
-
VX is not for gaming. I'd rather get G5 or copperhead than VX.
-
If, however I do not game a lot, would the VX be suitable?
I play games occasionally and have tried the G7 and Razer but they are too fast for my liking.
Would I be better suited with the VX? -
That is a very subjective question. The vx's good performance is unquestionable. Ofcourse, it's a great mouse. It depends on you. You should really see it in person and see how it feels on your hand. It's more of a personal preference when it comes to gaming or general use. My earlier posts are just my own opinions. They don't have to take effect on you. If the VX suits you, go for it. You can't go wrong with that mouse.
-
Thanks eek. I tried the VX when I passed PC World and I must say I fell in love with the design of it. Don't know what the scroll wheel was like as it wasn't plugged in and they wouldn't install it lol.
Q: Some one tell me I am not crazy for contemplating getting both a VX and a gaming mouse (whether I get a Razor or Logitech in the end). Or maybe that is overkill -
I didn't really care for the form factor of the G7, always felt a bit too heavy and clunky to me... or at least the version I used before the G7 came out (the LED based predecessor to the MX1000). Maybe the newer ones have lightened up a bit.
For home use, I prefer using the MX1000, but I have a VX I keep with me and use a lot at work. One thing to keep in mind is the VX not only uses regular AA batteries (vs NIMH in the G7) but it only uses one battery, making the mouse much lighter over all.
The LION battery in the MX1000 helps to keep it's weight down.
Also, the ability to turn off the mouse by simply plugging in the adapter is very nice.
I think the biggest issue for you here is not VX vs G7 but notebook sized mouse vs. full size mouse. Since they are meant for different audiences you might want to consider getting both -- one for home and one for the road. -
-
I have had a few mice. MX700 wireless, MX1000 wireless, 518, G5, now the VX. The VX is a great mouse but sometimes it jumps and seems unresponsive. Overall the VX is the best for laptops productivity (school work, etc....) however
if you are going to game, get a wire mouse period. Maybe because I'm not use to the VX but for gaming, it is absolutely horrible (from my experience). -
What1?!?
I just bought a VX and it's perfectly fine for gaming! -
what kinda games are you running??
-
The VX is by far the best (most comfortable) mouse I have ever used. And it works for gaming too, just check the right boxes in the setpoint software and add your game into setpoint to change the button config.
This mouse is a little smaller than the desktop mice I used to use and it fits perfectly in my hand, I wouldn't change it for any other mouse, maybe when a more advanced version of this one comes out -
I think it really begins to matter when you play intense FPS games like Doom or Half Life and especially online FPS games too. So who has played these games fine on a VX? I used to have a MX900 bluetooth mouse and they said it wasnt suited for games but it played all sorts of games just fine for me!
-
I'm playing CounterStrike Source at the moment! -
i think the MX came out before the VX lol
-
i have both (except my G7 is wired. G7 to play games, and revolution for commuting) both are good, The revolution signal is pretty good, never have a problem so far. The software doesnt help anything except for setting whch button do what and whatnot. Let say the G7 wireless has the same battery, signal quality with the revolutionI guess it comes down to the design, personally i prefer the design of the revolution, it feel more comfortable to me.
If you wanna do gaming, go for G7
If you wanna go commuting with your laptop, ill go for the revolution, it is -more portable-, lighter etc. It also has thise hole to hold your usb receiver which i doubt G7 has it. Its is pretty good for casual gaming too, i used it to play WoW on my laptop, but again i prefer wired mouse to play games
Btw i got bot for $30 each, on a amazon deals couple months agoand i couldnt be happier
-
MX revolution was an option for me to, I tried out both of them at my local shop and the VX won it mainly on size, I wanted something smaller and this is just perfect, as a desktop mouse also, next to that I didnt like the 2nd scroll wheel on the MX.
I mainly played BF2 with it and it work fine, since I quite that game and waiting for Crisis to hit the stores, I use it for 3d designing and all my daily computing. -
i cant wait for crisis! by then i will be forced to buy a mouse so maybe ill go for one now and play a bit of farcry
-
check the notebook and tech bargains forum: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=109300 thats a pretty sweat deal if you ask me
-
Bah, lucky, I had to buy a refurbished one for £35
-
I'd love a VX...if they came in a Bluetooth flavor that is. I just can't stand the extra dongle. Sadness. I'll stick with my v270 for a while it seems.
-
VX is the best mouse I have had so far..
