    Hi,

I'm thinking about getting the pair of them, but I had a couple of questions... will the g700's 1000hz refresh rate load my computers processor?

I'm running a core2duo T9300 (2.5 ghz) on a T61p and its stretched to its limits when i'm working on some heavy CAD and I do get the occasional crashes. I wanted to know if using the G700 at 1000hz while working with CAD programs can reduce performance.

Also, does the G930 tax the CPU to do the dolby prologic processing for the 7.1 sound? or do they have built in processors?

    Thanks!
    Carthik

It will use more CPU resource, but the difference will be intangible. If you're concerned that your CPU is stretched too thin with CAD and your mouse on full polling rate, try reducing it to 125Hz and see if it does anything. I doubt it will though.

    I can't comment on the G930 processing.

I personally can't tell a difference between 500 and 1000Hz. For gaming I keep it at 500 Hz and for general usage I set it to 250 or 33 Hz, and I can't honestly tell much of a difference between those settings and 500Hz. However, 500 Hz doesn't seem to reduce my performance noticeably in games like TF2 and Bad Company 2, although I do have an i5 which has a bit more power than your CPU.

The impact of the G700 and G930 on your CPU is going to be irrelevant. Your CPU is so powerful that any processing used by the G700 / G930 will never be noticed. So, go ahead, buy those products, and use them to your heart's content.

I would agree with Mjolner that putting a 500Hz polling rate on the Logitech G700 is a good setting. You don't get any noticeable performance difference vs. 1000Hz, but you do get the benefit of saving a lot of battery life with the lower 500Hz polling rate.

There is a setting to set the reports per setting. And the software says that the higher settings will use more cpu power.
Thats why I set my G700 at the lowest report.

Thanks for the replies guys... yea I use a sidewinder X8 now and have no issues with the 500 hz polling rate. I can't reduce it with the intellipoint software but with the logitech, it would be useful to turn down the sensitivity and test lower polling frequencies to improve battery.

I need a replacement cos the sidewinders middle click has lost its sensitivity and i have to click 3-4 times sometimes. it can get quite annoying while working on some cad stuff cos of the nature of my work flow and i'm hoping this logitech will be more durable... my x8 is less than a year old, i think about 6-8 months or something, it always felt a little flimsy and the scroll wheel was rated at only a few hundred thousand clicks or something and the left and right buttons at 1 or 2 million if i remember correctly. The logitechs left and right are 8 million... even if these stats are complete rubbish, i'm hoping they offer proportionately more life cos the x8 is great otherwise...

125Hz? With all due respect, then you might as well not even be using a gaming mouse; any generic office mouse has 125Hz polling.

but gaming mice still have higher resolutions and more programmable buttons than office mice... its just nice that we have the option of switching to 125, 250 500 or whatever else we want when we need more battery performance...

I guess so...do you at least turn it up to 500 or 1,000Hz when you play games? :p

Well, if it wasn't for the higher USB polling rate of the Logitech G700, I'd be using my Logitech Performance MX as my gaming mouse. It is a ~1800dpi mouse, 125Hz, lots of buttons, and supports darkfield imaging (works on glass and polished granite).

But since I want the higher USB polling rate, Logitech G700 was the way to go for me. I have to agree with MasterShroom - if you don't use higher USB polling rates above 125Hz, then the Logitech G700 is a tad bit overkill.

Thats why it has something called profiles. My most commonly used porfile has 125hz, the game profile is much higher, but I game less.

Okay...just the way you worded it at first, I thought you always used 125Hz. :p
