When I click the upper two buttons where the thumb goes it tells me they can't be assigned because they're already assigned as "Left control" and the three buttons beside the left click all do nothing when I try to assign them in games. Is there anything I can do about this?

Do you have the Setpoint software installed? If so, that should allow you to set those buttons. At the very least, you could create a profile for the game in question then assign a keystroke to the buttons you want to use. Go into the game and set the control you want to the keystroke you just assigned.
