On a bit of a whim I decided I should try out a wireless mouse and see how they actually fair against a wired mouse. So I bought the G700s and pitted it against my G500 (I left the G9x at work).
Aesthetics and Build Quality:
The G700s is of plastic construction, main body is textured (feels very similar to the G500), top surface is smooth and slightly more slippery than the G500 (could just be because its new). Not a big fan of the graphics they put on the G700s, it makes the mouse just look cheap. Time will tell how long these graphics last, my G500 has already started to fade after about 2 months of use. Buttons on the G700s feel a bit more flimsy and loose compared to the G500. Slight difference in switch/clicking sound, G700s seems a bit more quiet to me.
Feel and Performance:
Now this is going to be very subjective since we all have different hands and grip preferences. I myself am partial to the claw type grip, something that I've just been accustomed to after 4 years with the G9/G9x. First off the G500 has never quite felt right to me, it feels very 'fat' in the hand making it hard for me to use it in a claw grip. The G700s on the other hand feels much better, I can claw this with ease and I don't get any fatigue with this mouse (well so far anyway) compared to the G500. Left/right click feels more or less the same in both mice, I can't feel any real difference in click depth. Mouse wheel is also more or less the same design between the two, the 'bumpy' scroll feels better to me than the 'smooth' scroll. Macro buttons do feel different though; the G700s has bigger and more loose feeling buttons (I prefer the 'click' of the G500's buttons) but their size means its easier to tell them apart (I had problems with pressing the wrong button on the G500).
In terms of how the G700s tracks, its actually pretty decent. Unlike the last wireless mouse I tried (a rubbish Dell one that we had lying around at home) there is no noticeable delay in mouse movement if you leave it stationary then move it suddenly. It is a bit less precise than the G500 which is especially noticeable when you try moving the mouse in small increments. When the G700s is connected via the USB charging cable the small movement performance is much more accurate (hard to differentiate between the G500 and G700s). As far as lag goes, the G700s performs quite well. I didn't notice much of a difference in BF3 between the G500 or G700s.
One thing I have noticed more than anything else with the G700s is the mouse acceleration. It is definitely noticeable when you compare it to the G500 and it makes the G700s feel very odd when you first use it. I haven't noticed it that much in BF3 (trying out the G53 on CQ) but it is apparent when on the desktop. I have read that the sensors used in the higher end Logitech mice have this issue with acceleration but I've never really noticed it until now.
Overall:
I like the G700s, it performed better than I expected and will probably be replacing my G500 for home use. The fact that it's wireless is a bonus and will make mobile use much more comfortable and tidy (the G500's and G9x's braided cables just love getting in the way). I haven't commented on battery life since I've only used the G700s for less than a day but I will update with a figure later on if people are interested. I also haven't compared it to the G700 but I imagine they are basically the same apart from the graphics used on the G700s.
Score: 8/10

Thanks for the review. I'm thinking about buying this mouse.
-
ive got last years version so not sure if this newer model is better.
great mouse but rubbish battery life and ive had a lot of problems with the click and smooth scroll of the wheel. once its change to smooth it just doesnt want to go back to click mode. have to hold it upside down and bang it quite hard to get it to connect to click again.
hopefully this new model will have rectified the battery and scroll problem. -
Nice review. I have the older model G700 (no s) and I am more than satisfied with it; it has same accuracy and whatever you look for in a mouse as my former Logitech G5 that served me for several years while I was gaming on a desktop pc. In terms of battery life, I think the g700s has the same battery as the g700, which lasts me for about 2 days if gaming intensely. For regular operations, the battery can last up to 10 days.

I have the original model as well. Quite like the design and feel. Have never used it in battery mode though, which sort of defeated the purpose in me getting it... Still, for $70AU, a very good mouse for the money.
-
Well looks like the battery lasts around 3 days for me (I only use it for around 3-4 hours a day).

How have your thoughts on the mouse changed now since your first impressions?

I bought my g700 for about 130 euros exactly 1 year and 11 months ago and lucky me, when it broke last month, they replaced it with a new mouse (still g700) and another 2 years warranty, so I'm a happy camper.

Odd that it's a "gamer" mouse, as it works great for ordinary stuff.
Top of the class re-chargable batteries, like Sanyo's Eneloop, are the way to go with it.
I never bother with the wired connection (for re-charge) and simply recharge the expired Eneloop batteries via an external unit when I have at least 2 depleted Eneloop batteries. -
Thanks for this review! I'm using the G700 and it's great. I had the issue where it double clicks instead of single clicking. One call to Logitech and they shipped out a brand new replacement. I would advise the poster a few posts above me to call Logitech for the scroll wheel issue.
OT: Nice setup you got there OP. Is that a Beyer hooked up to a Schiit Valhalla? How's that working out for you? -
Thanks, that's a Bidfrost and Lyr with DT990 premiums and HD650's on the stand. -
How would you compare the g700 with the razer ouroboros?
Is the g700's wired mode hindered by the stiffness of the wire? -
-
^Agree
I usually don't use it wired, but I use my smartphone charger cable when I do. The included cable is nice, and looks cool, but it's too thick to game well with, imo. -
Any chance you have a link for a worthy cable?
Anyway I immediately pulled the cable out and looked, and it's some odd, tiny, male connector that goes into the G700 with an ordinary male USB connector on the other end. Any idea what exactly the "odd, tiny, male connector" is? I assume some smaller version of USB? I remember seeing a picture, so all I really need to do is put on my handy 40x optical magnifier "hat" to check how many metal connectors are on each unit and then hope that whatever I order (from a place like monoprice) has a flexible enough cable.
Thanks for the idea.
BTW I too "...usually don't use it wired"; but I'm also not much of a gamer, and am thinking of trying Logitech's other similarly priced wireless mouse (non-gamer mouse) that also comes a single rechargable "Eneloop" AA battery as they're a terrific solution to the high power drain of the mouse.
Because the 2nd thing about using the G700 is that so far I haven't figured out how to get more acceleration movement with it. The new gamer software (ver ?) doesn't seem to do acceleration? And now they've removed the older Setpoint, which I still have a version of. So maybe I'll uninstall the gamer software and install the Setpoint that I have as it works for both the G500 and the G700. -

Do you actually own this specific cable?
It looks like it might be more flexible, but if you don't own it, then I'll likely pass. Meaning that there's a lotta positive comments on this cable on Amazon, but only one uses the term "flex" and even then it's not that clear just how flexible this cable is relative to the G700's cable.
FWIW I uninstalled the new gaming software for the G700 (ver 8.45), and re-installed the SetPoint (ver 6.32) that I'd saved. Both versions 32 bit for my WinXP desktop.
Presto, stiff cable problem gone.
Perhaps the most weird solution to a hardware problem that I've yet come across. -
What do you mean the acceleration on the g700s is a problem? Is there acceleration or not? It is supposed to have been eliminated.
