You need to download and install the most current version of SetPoint that is specifically made for your mouse. Logitech is very clear on this point. You need the SetPoint version that was made for your model mouse. It should be v5.10.203 for a Logitech G9 mouse if you are on a WindowsXP platform.

Once you download and install the appropriate version of SetPoint, you can edit the LED colors of your G9 by doing the following:

    1) Open Setpoint
    2) Double click on G9 Laser Mouse (should already be highlighted in blue)
    3) Click the top-right most Edit button which should be under the heading, "Basics (more info)"
    4) Scroll down until you see "LED Color" with a palette of 15 colors to pick from
    5) Chose a color and click "Apply" and then "Okay"
    6) Depending on the profile you assigned the color to, your LED color should have changed. If it did not, press the Profile button underneath the mouse, and while holding it in, switch to the appropriate profile on your mouse by using the DPI rocker switch.

Hope this helps! If it doesn't, let me know. =)

As far as the G9 goes, I love mine. Pound for pound, it's one of the best mice money can buy, bar none. Suffice to say, I would have a hard time parting with this rodent.

Cheers, Garet. I never bothered updating the original software that came with the mouse when I bought it last year. Could only get four colors to display (RBGY) of which Logitech informed me was a hardware issue. I could exchange it thru the store I purchased it at but as it was a special order in the first place I couldn't be bothered. Anyway, latest G9 setpoint fixed it! +Rep to ya! :)

My G9 is the best mouse I've ever used. I never really had much use for the color changing feature, seeing as I only use one profile.

I have a G9 (Precision Grip) and a G5. I replaced a Razer Lachesis and DeathAdder with the Logitechs. The Lachesis only works on hard-surface mouse pads - it is so sensitive that when using a soft pad, the cursor will move slightly when pressing one of the buttons. Razer has a software "fix" but it kind of defeats the purpose.

The Logitech's tilt wheel makes it great as an all-around gaming/general-use mouse. I have the dpi settings at 400/1000/1600 on both.

Mine works great and does what it needs to do, after the factory replaced my first faulty one that is. :)

Do you think that the extra weight that is given with it is really useful?

I don't use the extra weights.
If you use a lower sensitivity (lower DPI setting) with a large and fast mousepad then you might like the extra weights.

Just scored on this awesome deal!

Does anyone here find the scroll wheel a little hard to press down? Or is it just me?

I like the precision grip better. I stuck in 8g of weights just for kicks, but seriously, it's something you can get used to no matter how many different weights you stick in there. Works out of the box in Linux, but I haven't tried the setpoint software yet. It's very slick on the desk.

The scroll wheel is a bit tricky to press down in hyperscrolling mode. If you switch it to notched scrolling, it becomes significantly easier to press.

Are most if not all mice with side scroll like this?

My G9x scroll wheel is really hyper on free-scrolling mode, I figured that letting it spin freely and then using a finger to stop the wheel sometimes works.

I absolutely love my G9. However, the hyperscrolling doesn't work anymore. It's sort of jammed, but it's not noticeable when hyperscrolling is turned off. But Logitech customer support is amazing. I reported my problem, and they just sent me a new one. I didn't even have to return my old one. Unfortunately, the new one got jammed too :p

Yikes. I've had my G9 for well over a year, and the hyperscroll has never jammed on me. I haven't had to replace any parts of this mouse. If I have to replace anything, I'm sure it will be the Teflon feet, since I use the mouse on a hard mouse pad, which will supposedly wear them down over time.

    I recently upgraded my mouse to a G9 from a mx518.

It took a while getting use to as I thought the mouse would be HUGE from the pictures.

The mouse is actually smaller than the mx518.

It works great and I really love the hyperscrolling and adjustable led lights =]
