Hey everyone!
I got a Logitech G9 several months ago. It was my first real gaming mouse. Before that I was using a Logitech mx510 which is just like the mx518, except it has a lower resolution. The mx510 is a good mouse, I've never had any problems with it and I still use it as a backup. I just wanted something more hardcore. So these are my thoughts on some of the features on the G9. I bought mine from Amazon.com for $79.99 -$10 mail in rebate from Logitech. for a total of $69.99 with a free shipping offer from Amazon.
Note: I have VERY large hands. So large that "one size fits all" gloves usually don't fit me. I can easily palm a basketball and throw it like a baseball.
FIRST IMPRESSIONS:
I don't have the packaging anymore, but I can tell you that it was a joy to unbox. I know beauty is only skin deep, but as I was opening it, I was like. Wow! this is great!
My first impressions were very good. This being my first gaming mouse I can't really give any compairson, but it felt great to have it. It had that "expensive" feel to it. I'm sure you understand.
THE GRIPS
The G9 comes with 2 interchangeable grips. I THINK the G9 is the only mouse that has this feature (feel free to correct me if I'm wrong). I love this feature. It's not a just a marketing gimic like so many features on mice are.
One is meant for people who hold their mouse in their fingertips and move the mouse around with their wrist. (fingertip gamers) This grip is narrow and textured to keep the mouse from slipping out of youR fingers. I think this grip is the more comfortable of the 2. I use it for all of my day-to-day stuff.

The other grip was designed for people who hold the mouse in the palm of their hand and move it around with a combination of theiry wrist and arm. (palm gamers) This grip is fatter and has a more aggressive thumb rest on it. It also has an anti-sweat coating on it (more on that later) I use this grip for gaming

As great as a feature as different grips are, I've had a few problems with both of them. The coating on the "palm" grip is very delicate. After only 3 months of gental use it was already starting to peel. After 5 months it was peeling worse than a banana.

The "fingertip" grip's problems aren't as severe and fixable. The area on the bottom of the grip below the the thumbrest was dragging on the mousepad. Like it needed to be a wee bit "slimer". I just took a piece of black sandpaper and removed the last few millimeters off the bottom. It's fine now.

The circled black area is where I had to sand.
ADJUSTABLE WEIGHTS
I know that some people think that adjustable weights are of no real value in a mouse. I respectively disagree with those people. This is another feature that I use on a daily bases. I like a light mouse for day to day stuff that I have to do. But I prefer a heavy mouse for my gaming. I think it gives me a more steady aim.
The only thing I don't really like about the weight system on this mouse is that you have to remove the grip to get to the wieght cartrige. It's not so bad, but it gets a little annoying after a while

OTHER FEATURES
The G9 has a special braided cord that doesn't get tangled and doesn't curl the way a "normal" mouse cord would. This is another very nice feature that the G9 has that you don't find on ordinary mice.
On-the-fly dpi switching is nice. The button that adjusts it is at the base of the left click which I think is a good place for it. It's easy to push when you want to, but it is unlikely to be pushed by accident there. It's great to have in a shooter, I don't know how I ever got along without it. I'll raise the DPI when I'm a soldier to get a quick aim, or lower the DPI when I'm a sniper for better accuracy.
The scroll week can be either smooth or "clicky". I think this is a nice feature, but Logitech could have done better here. The button that switches between the two is on the bottom of the mouse. That takes away almost all chances of switching between the 2 on-the-fly. For a gaming application you're really limited to using it "clicky" to switching between weapons in FPS or going smooth for zooming in and out in a strategy. It's still nice to have an option though
FINAL THOUGHTS
I think that the G9 is a great mouse and a worthy buy. It should be considered for anyone who is looking for gaming mouse that you can be adjusted to fit your special needs. It doesn't come cheap, but I think Logitech thought this out very well and created a product that does what it was designed to do. That is, give an edge to gamers. It has it's flaws, but doesn't everything? And I believe the good on this mouse far outweighs the bad.
note: This my first review. I would love to hear your feedback weather it be fair of fowl.

lol, I have the same mouse and even the same mouse pad. Except the lights on mine are red instead of green. It's like an alternate universe picture to see yours.
I love mine too. I haven't had the grip peeling problems, though I haven't had it quite as long as you either. Yeah it is expensive, but it is so combortable, at least for me, it is worth it.
