Bought this on black friday at best buy. I noticed when i use the scroll wheel to go up and down, theres a squeaky sound thats very annoying. I had many wireless mouse before and never had this.

Does anyone know why this is happening? Mouse is brand new when i got it. It seems to squeak when i go up with the scrollwheel not when it goes down.

That's the risk you take with a mechanical interface.

Doesn't Logitech have a touch-based mouse, such as the one I mentioned in another thread? That type of interface does away with mechanical interface entirely.

Something to consider, at the very least.

What does that mean mechanical interface? I read reviews for this mouse everywhere and everyone says its great. Also when i first got it, i liked the size and everything of it. Then i noticed the unbearable squeaking sound. So does that mean this mouse is thus defective? There is no way i can use this mouse UNLESS i never use the scrollwheel... which i know most ppl woudln't be able to do.

Im assuming this is just a defect in this mouse and all other m310 mice are not like that? Because i can't imagine all the great reviews about it if it has this issue. This squeaking noise is very very unbearable. I also want to know... you know waht exact sound im talking about right?

    Mechanical v electrical interface.

Most mice are mechanical by design, but some are electrical in design. Your mouse is typical of a mechanical device, which will degrade by use over time depending on the quality of the internal mechanical elements. In contrast, a touch-based mouse is strictly electrical in design as there aren't any internal moving parts to degrade.

BTW, if all the (subjective?) reviews say your device is exceptional, that alone makes me wary of the device and sceptical of the motivations of the reviewers.

It has a tiny axle with enclosures on both sides. If you're up to a little tinkering; remove screws and clip-off top cover to get access, then lubricate both sides with Vaseline or the like. Noise will be gone, may have to repeat after some years.

It has a Logi logo on it. How dare any independent and objective reviewer say it's not the greatest mouse in the world for that price range. Only hired speakers of Razor and such say that.

Your issue does sound like a lemon though.

Yep. But switching to capacitive touch does remove tactile feedback completely, which to many people is unbearable.

Some Hall effect sensors with comparators might fit onto existing mouse boards. Maybe someone with more electronic hacking experience than me can recommend a solution?
