I finally got a laptop that has some power behind it and I would like to put it to good use. I would like to play some newer games like Shogun 2, Starcraft 2, Skyrim and Civ5 and know I need a mouse for these games.
Has anyone used a trackball, in particular the M570, for these things? It uses laser tracking and has a scroll wheel which seems to fix the problems most posts mention from a few years ago. Its been a while since I used one at all but learning and become good with it would not be an issue. If gaming were my only concern I would buy a "real" gaming mouse but realistically I know I will be using it for a lot less demanding tasks most of the time and space is usually at a premium and I really would like to be able to use the arm of a chair I have at home for a mouse. I have no intentions of playing online so exact pinpoint precision is not necessary, I just need something better than the laptop trackpad. Any input or other suggestions would be helpful.

I always wondered what people use those track balls for? Are they there just to move the cursor around or do they do other things? Also, why would you use the ball to move the cursor instead of using the sensor on the button?

i rarely heard about this Logitech "m570" product but as the guy above me said a " Track balls"? i just remember of something. So this is a mouse with a giant Red Track balls ? because i've seen it almost in every store...

Taking it apart is also slightly involved, as it require removing the rubber feet for 3 of the screws, and also breaking the sticker under the battery (which I assume is to let Logitech known it's been disassembled).
I had one of these before, and on that one it wasn't nearly so hard to turn the scroll wheel.
Good luck with it all! -
Wow, it is hard to believe that some people don't know what a trackball is. It is an alternative method of moving a cursor on the screen. The "mouse" doesn't move, just the ball does.
Logitech M570 impressions?
