so im getting a gaming mouse, i was going to get the G5 but i relize i really dont want the weights... but i might still want to get it...
so which is better, they both cost about the same...
Logitech MX 518 or Razer DeathAdder Gaming Mouse
razer-1800dpi
MX518-1600dpi
both are 5.8 megapixels per second
and razer looks cooler, im leaning towards gettin a razer
any suggestions?
-
then again the g5 has 6.4 mp per sec and 200 dpi.... =/
dont really want the weights and extra stuff, and it is way overpriced (unlike the razer) at bestbuy (got a gift certificate) -
i use the mx518 and use the razer exactmat mousepad. I havnt used the deathadder but I can definetly say that if you have large hands you will probably want the logitech. Its also contoured for right handed only.
-
You don't need to use the weights on the G5 if you don't want to. I think the G5 is superior to the MX518 despite not having a true forward button. Plus it's a bit higher DPI (2000). I currently use a G5 and I managed to get one on sale a few months back for $40 from Best Buy. I think the prices have gone up though since I believe Logitech released a different color scheme.
My suggestion is to go into Best Buy or something where they have them on display and try them out for yourself. Mice are things that you either are comfortable with or not, and Logitech and Razer mice have their differences. The Razer Copperhead, for example, is really low at the fingers and may not be comfortable to you. Spec wise all three mice that you considered are pretty much the same, so I'd base your choice off the mice's feel. -
Meh, laser mice are overrated. Check out the reviews and roundups at esreality for more information on that. Generally speaking, laser mice just don't do nearly as well at high sensitivities as late generation infrared optical.
I've used both the MX518 and the DeathAdder extensively, and it's kind of tough. I much prefer the shape and rubberized finish of the DeathAdder. On the other hand, I've also had problems with the wheel on two separate mice. The first one had this odd ratcheting, as if something were rubbing against the wheel, and the second is starting to squeak. I haven't noticed any difference in responsiveness and dealing with quick flicks at high or low sensitivity. -
I have narrowed it down to both of these as well before. Thread here
The Logitech MX518 (retail version) feels great and is bang for the buck... however its looks are fulgy... looks like someone threw it against the wall a couple of times and dented it (stupid Logitech graphic designers).
The Razer DeathAdder is definitely a great mouse and way better in comfort... but the price tag was a bit too much for me.
So I went for the ultra-rare MX518 Carbon Fiber edition, rebranded by ASUS. It only comes with ASUS gaming notebooks (like the G1), someone on NBR offered it to me... how can I pass it up?
Here are some quick pics from my Treo:
As you can see, it fits very well with my Clevo D900K.
(and the "Bloom" effect from my cheap phone-cam makes it look more interesting, LOL)
I am using it now, very nice and sleek. Pretty comfortable as well. -
As above. Do yourself a favour and check out mice in person, unlike somebody I know who bought the DeathAdder and VX Revolution purely on internet forum love/hate
-
yeah i have to agree LFC....if you can try it out...i bought the mx518 but my friend had it prior and let me use it for a weekend before i bought it myself..
-
LFC dont u mean the MX revolution??
-
You're going to be hard pressed to find a razer deathadder that you can try at a big store.
-
oh sry nvm LFC,, my fault.. i thought u made a typing error..
-
hey thanks a lot guys for all the feedback... i guess ill see if they have the razer or mx518 on display to try it out. as of now im leaning towards the razer because of the looks rather then the mx518. im gunna see if i can try it out first though.
thanks again everyone, fast growing thread dam! -
If u have even slightly larger hands, I would recommend the MX518, I just love its design.
Also, I find Razer mice in general kind of hard to hold because of their size, don't know if this is the case with the DeathAdder or not. That would become quite annoying in fast paced shooters. -
i have long, skinny fingers, pretty big hands. but im used to small notebook mice so idk. ill check em out and think about it. still leaning towards the razer though... =/
-
then again i can get a g5 for 37 bucks on amazon... =/ ... but i got a best buy gift card... if only i cud turn that in to money... =(
-
You might want to consider the MX1000, if you have big hands.
-
-
heh perhaps you didnt notice the guy had the card in one hand and a gun in the other
ahh guns, natures way of solving all life's problems lol
the deathadder is great! i have one and think its amazing. it works smoothly on any surface and its got the latest technology to boot. the rubberized feel is a plus and the design makes it quite effortless to use the scroll wheel. havent had any driver issues with this one compared to most other razer mice out of the box. -
yah well i dont think i can do that, but its worth a try =/
i think i have decided on the razer deathadder =) -
id prefer the G5. I have the G7 but its getting annoying because i have to change the batteries every 2-3 days.
-
I have rather large hands (8" heel to middle finger tip, 3-3/4" middle finger) and the Death Adder is very comfortable for me. It comes about 2/3 down my palm, and my wrist wrests comfortably on the desk behind it. It's shape is much more traditional than other Razer mice, by the way, so you have to ignore any old bias with it.
-
Good to hear, I'll have to look at the newer Razer.
-
yep i decided on the deathadder, probably gunna buy it online sometime this week. =)

Im a big fan of the 518, It took me time to get used to its ergonomic shape but after I did its a perfect mouse. Great response, great software and drivers, and good feel/button layout.
I got it for like 40$ way back when, thats a super good deal.
I remap the window toggle button to "close aplication" I have had it like that since day one, so when web surfing I have back/forward right there at my thumb and to quickly close any window or program its a .02 second pointer finger button click away rather than finding the red x on a window.
I have had no popups in a long time since IE7 and FF2 have built in blockers but when I did, I could kill them so fast they never even poped up or loaded. Also works great for killing somthing that freezes. -
