Logitech MX Revolution, does anyone else think the wheel feels poor quality ?

Ive just bought myself an MX Revolution mouse and my first impressions are that its a very nice mouse, it feels great in hand and very comfortable with its moulded design. I like the weight of it as well as it feels very solid and sturdy, one thing thats dissapointing though is how the mouse wheel feels, it feels cheap and very poor quality.

The mouse wheel has 2 modes which are Click-To-Click and Free Spin, the Click-To-Click mode feels clunky as if the wheel is on a cheap plastic ratchet that could break at any point, the Free Spin mode feels too loose as if you are spinning fresh air with little control.

Has anyone else got an MX Revolution mouse and noticed the same, are the things above normal and not a fault with my mouse ?

Lol....he's right though, was a bit disappointed with it myself. I also had the VX Nano which had the same click or free spin modes but felt much better, especially the free spin was much more precise, more controlled. Other then that great mouse, wish they all came with the nano mini receiver though

Yep, I couldn't agree more. I went from the Logitech MX610 to the Revolution and I was very dissapointed with the scroll wheel. It suffers from the fact they incorperated the choice between modes. The MX610 just had the basic click-to-click mode and it felt great.

Besides this, though, it's a fine mouse.

So its the design of the mouse then and not a fault with mine, its a pitty about the poor, loose, clunky feeling scroll wheel as this potentially could have been the perfect mouse as it feels so comfortable in your hand and has a nice weighty feel.

All of mine feels perfectly OK.

You are aware that the wheel is supposed to be used with your fingers and not actually in contact with the ground, are you not? :p

I have no mind, my inner sanctum is empty and my race suit and helmet cover fresh air.

I dunno about the rest of you, but i like the revolution's wheel. I don't really like the resistance the other mice have on their wheels, and find that the lower resistance of the Revolution to be much nicer.

...and what's wrong with HyperScroll? I use it all the time. It's great for jumping through incredibly long documents.

There is a slight bit of tuning you have to do to the auto-switching scroll to get the most out of it. Perhaps many people don't do it and feel the wheel behaves badly. I like the MX's wheel a lot.

i also switched from the 610 to the mx rev and found the opposite. the wheel is superior once you get used to it

the usb receiver on the rev broke and once you go back to a regular scroll wheel(mx518 in my case) you notice the difference

Me too. I love using it for different forums to make long jumps and then the ratchet mode to do normal scrolling. The auto-switching mode works very well for me.

I guess. I would hate the mouse without the set-point software, but after I accepted that I needed it there are a lot of cool things. If it was a bit more customizable then it would be even better and I would love the mouse.

Example: Why can't I make the 1-touch search to switch wheel modes? I NEED the scroll click for several programs, but I would like to manually control the wheel mode sometimes. I know the software COULD do it, but it won't let me. Why?

For me it's not that the functions of the wheel are bad in any way. It's just that the way it was implemented in the VX Nano was much better, same options and functionality but much steadier somehow.
Of course when compared to a standard mouse it's great but compared to another logitech mouse with the same function it's kinda crap

My main gripe is that on click mode the wheel feels loose and clunky, it feels like one of them cheap plastic ratchet mechanisms that you find in cheap toys.

The mouse apart from the is superb, the fit in your hand is 2nd to none.
