    Hi,

I bought Logitech Cordless Mini Optical Mouse for my new notebook with Vista Home Premium.

I downloaded the mice software SetPoint 4.70 from Logitech Support.

Now when I install the software on the notebook - after the initial extraction of files, the interface I get is in Chinese Language.

Checked installing the same software on my desktop with XP Pro & it runs in English.

The regional settings of my notebook are set to English (India).

    Pls assist.

Try to change the "Location" setting on the actual Logitech website to the United States or another country you would definitely get an English version on, then download the software.

There might be certain programming errors on the Logitech site which caused your specific download of the SetPoint software to end up in a different language. Since sometimes, Logitech, and some other websites, bundle their country locations by continent, the Asian countries might have gotten the Chinese language temporarily as a programming error...

I myself have a V450 Cordless Laser, and I downloaded my Setpoint under the location of "United States," even if I am currently based in the Philippines, and it was in English.

    Try what steelroots7xe said.

If that doesn't work then I could send you the .exe file (I do believe I have it on my external hard drive from the last time I formatted my computer). It installed SetPoint in English without any problems, so it should work for you (if it doesn't then we have an odd problem on our hands).
Let me know if steelroots7xe's solution worked.

You don't really need SetPoint... the Logitech mice work fine with Vista's built-in mouse driver.

But... if you want it anyway... then try what steelroots7xe said.

    Thanks for your reply.

I have downloaded from three different locations including US; but its the same story.

Most surprising thing is that the interface shows up in Chinese only on Vista.

I cross checked with my other HP Laptop, it was in Chinese & as informed earlier it shows up in English when trying to install on XP. :(

BTW, is SetPoint worth all this headache? As in features extra.

Well you have a Cordless Mini Optical Mouse? From Logitech's website I don't see any extra buttons or anything like that on the mouse. So really, in your case SetPoint is pretty useless.
See I have a MX™610 Laser Cordless Mouse, which has a nice few extra buttons on it. I never figured out if there was a way to configure these extra buttons using Windows so I resorted to using SetPoint to configure my mouse. So without SetPoint I can't use the extra buttons but in your case you don't have any extra buttons to configure. Anything that needs to be configured (mouse speed, acceleration, etc) can be done through Windows.
So if I were you I'd just forget about SetPoint since as far as I know it really won't give you anything extra.

Thanks Thibault for all your assistance.

I think I too will do without SetPoint. :)

But could you figure out why SetPoint's Interface is in Chinese in Vista & in English in XP?

    You're welcome.

I'm really not sure why SetPoint is installing itself in Chinese and not English. I tried doing a google search on the issue but didn't find any useful information so I don't think this is a common problem.
I'm guessing the file you're downloading from Logitech is fine (since you've tried downloading it from various regional locations).
So my guess is that when SetPoint is installing itself it screws up due to the Regional Settings on your notebook. I realize that you have it set to English (India), but who knows how SetPoint reacts to the India part.
If you really want to see if that's the issue, try changing your regional settings to English (US) and installing it. If it installs in English then we will know that this was the problem (then you can switch back to English (India)). If that doesn't work then I really have no idea.
I do know that regional settings can screw up the language when you install some programs. I used to have my settings set to French (Canada), but the language set to English (I prefer the time format, currency format, etc of the French system) and a lot of program would install themselves in French instead of English. So my guess is that your problems are due to your settings being English (India).

Edit: I did find this discussion on the same issue. But there is no solution posted there.

Thanks Thibault for that useful link. I think we have figured out the issue.

It looks like the conflict lies between the Regional Language settings & SetPoint; as my Vista Regional Language is set to English (India) & my XP Pro Regional Language is set to English (United States).

Will try changing my Vista settings to English (United States) & update. :)

Glad I could help (if this all works out).
Let me know if that solves your problem, I'd like to know if this was the issue with SetPoint or if it's something else that's causing it. My guess is that it will install in English if your regional setting is English (US). So hopefully that works.
But like I said before, for your mouse you don't really need SetPoint, it won't really give you any additional features or benefits.

Yup Buddy, we nailed the demon. ;)
It was coz of the English (India) settings. Changed it to English (US) & the interface was in English.

After getting on to the issue, I too was more interested in finding the cause of the conflict rather than installing SetPoint.

Thanks a lot for your assistance. :)

    Excellent!
I'm glad we figured it out! Now we'll know what's wrong if this happens to anyone else.
    Good work.
