im tryign to decide betweent hese two usb speakers for my laptop. can anyone tell me if the v20 are way mor einferior than the audio dock? Ive read reviews on both and they both get good ratings, im wondering mostly if the v20 has ample bass to create a rich and full sound experience.

I have the V20's they get the job done but honestly I do not use them very often. I don't like the sound they produce. I actually prefer my built in laptop speakers. The only reason I would use my v20s is if I have a situation where I need pure amplitude aka a presentation or "dj'ing" at a party.
Maybe my pair just sucks, but there are some highs and they sound kind of hollow, then there is lows and the mid is just gone. I also think I posted a review or a rant about them at one point in time.
I thought one of the "subs" was broken because the bass sounded louder in one speaker than the other and it also wanted to vibrate around the table if turned up loud so to diagnose the issue I took the speaker apart and what I found astounded me. There is only 1 speaker! the little speaker is the only real speaker on them the "woofer" has no power, no voice coil, its just a cone and its passive run purly on pair pressure inside the enclosure.
This is normally called a passive woofer I have 2 of them in my truck as subs but they work because they are run by another subwoofer. How you expect to run a sub off a midranger/tweeter tho is... I dont even have a world for it.
And there information on the speaker is misleading, when I went to go see if I got fake speakers somehow or if they had false advertised the product I found they called the woofer a "pressure woofer" and thats the wrong term. It should be called a passive woofer. A pressure woofer is one usually designed for extreme SPL like audiobahn makes.
Now as to the audio hub, never seen it or used it so I can not compare. Despite all the flaws I pointed out in the V20's they are still ok with me since they can be had so cheap and they are a fully portable solution so it comes in handy but only for volume and nothing more. -
very informative, thank you. -
I have V20s. For what they are, I like them. NO, THEY ARE NOT hifi. They aren't intended to be. After all, they are powered from the USB port. That's 5 volts, 500 milliamps MAX. 2.5 watts MAX. Probably a realistic 1 to 1.5 watts. But mine seem to have a smooth, although limited, frequency response, light on both ends, but still easily listenable for music and movies. Bass is there, but not like you would find in a system with its own power and larger drivers.
A nice, fitted, transport case, cords long enough, although I wish they were a bit longer, and usable sound. I wish they had left the pushbutton controls off them though. It's much easier to use the audio controls on the computer.
As for the dock? Never even seen one so no comment. -
All good speakers require AC power and due to this portability is always an issue. Nevertheless, if you are not looking for USB speakers, Logitech has released LS11 which is very good. If you insist on USB speakers, I have found Logitech V10 speakers to better in its class of speakers.
Disclaimer: This is based on my experience with these Logitech speakers and hence my opinion. Your hearing may vary. -
I just got the audio hub and it's sound pretty good but it needs AC. Got it cheap ($33) here:

Actually, the best really portable notebook speaker has to be the Logitech Travel sound 500. it sound much better than most laptop speaker even using USB power and if you need just a bit more, just plug in the small battery pack. Unfortunately, it's been dis-continued but you can still find them from a few retailer but they are expensive. -

I agree with Sin that the V10 are what I would get probably if I were to choose again between V20 and V10. They are smaller so easier to fit in a small desk or area and also transport but sound just as good but with less bass. However the sound is more balanced.
I would be upset if I paid full retial for the v20's but I got mine dirt cheap on ebay so I actually got a good deal and what I needed. -
x3 on the V10 suggestion
I got a pair of V10's off ebay for $5.01 and I can tell you that they are a major upgrade to my M1330's speakers. Now they don't have a huge amount of bass, but they are very portable and produce a loud balanced sound throughout the 4 speakers. Honestly, I don't even go past 60% on the volume just because I'm afraid my neighbours next door can hear me (I currently reside in an apartment)
Now, I do plan on buying real 2.1 speakers when i move back into a house, but for my $5, i totally feel like i ripped someone off :S
