    Hi everyone, :)

I just got a Sager NP 5791 and I love it. Accept for the speakers are simply crap. I'm not usually very picky about sound quality as long as it's loud and has plenty of bass :D . But the speakers on the Sager NP 5791 are bad enough that I'm now in the market for a good pair of USB speakers. I have herd some good things about the Logitech V20. Does anybody have any personal experience with them?

    Thanks in advance

what exactly do you need to know about them? i've had them since Aug 07.

if you have any specific questions, i'll try to answer them as best i can.

overall, the sound quality on the V20s is fair. the bass is a little lacking but what can you expect? the overall tone is preserved fairly well, so you'll get most of the sound out of anything you play. as for how loud it can actually get....it can get pretty loud. i keep it between 10-20 and it works fine for me

If you want base and are not too picky i'd recommend getting a cheap ass 2.1 speakerset. Nothing beats a subwoofer. I've got a Wintech set from around 20 bucks myself that sounds just amazing. Just make sure the sub is made out of wood, the cheap Creative or Logitech should do you fine.

edit; nevermind, i didn't realize it was for on the road, a subbie is no good then :)

I would like to know durable they are, and how heavy they are. I travel quite a bit so I dont want something that will weigh me down, but I also want to get something that will last. Also how easy/hard are the external controls to use?

-Weight is not bad, they're fairly light

-Durability and build quality I would rate as very good

-It is bulky, the case the speakers are stored in makes the whole package quite large

-External controls are difficult to use. The buttons are hard to press and it's all software controls, not hardware. What I mean is that the volume buttons actually changes your computer volume not separate controls for the speakers.

-USB interface which has pros and cons. Pros is that you don't need external power source for them. Con is that you can't hook up mp3 player or external sound source to it.

-Sound quality is average. It's nothing special. The speaker enclosure rattle comically when reproducing "bassy" sounds at higher volumes, enough to make the speakers vibrate around. It is a large improvement over most integrated notebook speakers though.

-I'd get something else, but I haven't found any other spectacular options.

-Price for these speakers is around 20-30 bucks refurb on eBay

i agree with elfroggo for the most part, except that i feel the external controls aren't that bad. they can be a little difficult to press at times, but i haven't found them so for the most of my use.

For something that is easy to carry and use, the V20s are pretty good. Decent sound and volume if you remember that USB is max 5 volts at 500ma. That's a max 2.5 watts available to power those speakers.

If it's for a desktop use, get something else. I use Logitech Z4 at home. The case they come in is a bit large, but the speakers are fairly good size. My wheeled case has plenty of room for them. A backpack may or may not.
