I'm wanting to buy new speakers for my dv9000t. Im an audio nut, but don't use my laptop at my desk enough to justify anything more than around $100. I've heard the X-230's are an amazing buy for the price, but was wondering if the x-530's made much more of a difference? Also, is there anything else I should be considering for under $100? Space isn't an issue, so either 2.1 or 5.1 is fine. Thanks!

The x series are okay, but I would recommend others, the subwoofer is horrendously underpowered for what it should be.
Maybe a step up to this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16836121122 -
I have the X-230s, I recommend them.
I personally don't think the subwoofer's underpowered.
They have great sound quality and they look pretty good too.
Plus they only cost me around £25. -
For $100, I would recommend the Bose Companion 2. Awesome sound.

The Logitech X-530's have the same speakers as the X-230's, just more of them. I own the X-230's and have them hooked up to my desktop, they are fairly powerful and I also think the subwoofer is great. It's hard to argue for the price.
If you want the best speakers you can possibly get for $100, maybe you can squeeze in the Logitech Z-2300's, but shipping on them will probably take you over. -
I bought a set of X-230s for my roommate and posted a review at amazon.com.
If you're an audio nut, don't bother with them. They're great value for the price and a good entry set, but the Z-2300s will blow them out of the water. The X-230s will not give you anything approaching the detail of the Z-2300s. Want to hear your singer's voice quiver? Want to hear the sonics of the studio they recorded the piece in? You'll hear those (faintly) with the Z-2300s. The X-230s won't even suggest their existence.
You can buy them yourself or take my word for it-I'm speaking as someone with Logitech Z-560s and a pair of Etymotic ER-4p reference in-ear buds.
As for X-230 vs. X-530, ditto with Chaz here-having more speakers won't improve the sound quality at all. And if you're using them with a desk you have to ask if you can deal with the cable/speaker clutter of rear speakers. ALSO, if you're using a laptop you're going to have fun figuring out where to put the center speaker. Hence my personal choice of the Z-560s (a 4.1 set) -
I have the X-530s with a X-Fi Fatality and to me it sounds really nice. I wont consider this an audiophile system though since my friend's Z-5500 and Auzentech X-Meridian sounds distinctively better. However for casual mp3 it is more than enough.

just to remind you incase you forgot, chaz
the x230 and x540 have more than speaker count in differences.....the x540 has 70RMSwatts whereas the x230 has only 32RMS....aside from that I agree that there isn't much difference and the sound quality isn't much better but the x540 does have a somewhat noticeable increase in loudness.
I'll add another vote for the z2300.....I'm currently looking for a good deal on them myself.
the Bose are a nice system if you want to look into them.
Logitech X-230's or X-530's?
