I do not see any reason why z-2300 speakers wont work with your Dell. It worked with my Vaio which I had for the past 4 years.
You might want to upgrade your sound card if you want better audio quality.
For good boom boom I dont think you can get a better subwoofer than the Z-2300. Its got earth-shattering bass.
I love clarity in my speakers rather than the bass, and I have to turn the bass all the way down to heard some mid-range.
I think for 2.1 you cannot get better than the logitechs. Maybe you wanna look at some Klipsch 2.1 too just in case...

Thanks mate. is the audio with the standard sound card for the inspiron 1720 still good tho? If its not really then i might just go with a cheaper one. Want to use it with my ipod aswell.

If you are an audiophile, surely the sound wont be great with the standard soundcard. But if you are not too concerned about hearing all the highs and the mids, I think the standard soundcard will suffice. And anyway, if you want great audio fidelity, you should look further than the z-2300s
The speakers will work very well with your ipod...

Z-2300s are the best if you want the best subwoofer at that price range. I crank it up while playing cod4 and it shakes a good portion of my house.
