Would be good but: too expensive for it's functionality and useless lcd.
N52te is about half price. -
yes i have one
it is a nice device, the mapping can be picky
Used it in Counterstike and warcraft so far, the buttons are excellent and have good feedback, the joystick is also useful although in FPS games has limited use imo
anything specific you wanna know? -
can even give u break downs on pc temp or load -
can you monitor gpu temps in that lcd screen?
how are the quality of the keys, a long or short depress?
thanks! -
ok here we go
There are alot of mods u can load onto the lcd screen to show everything from gpu temps to the local weather and news
The keys have quite a long depress but i havent really noticed it too much, they give quite good feedback compared to a laptop keyboard
The mapping is done through an app from logitech, it auto detects all the games you have installed and d/loads any preset mapping that they have. Problem is that if you customise the mapping it doesnt overwrite it makes a new profile which you then need to assign to the game. Otherwise when you launch the game it just loads the default profile. This was annoying as it too me half hour to get it working, its just a process you need to learn. Once you have it figured out its fine
Hope that helps -
Sorry to bring up an old thread, but I have had mine for a little over a week. So far I really like it, but I have to say the keys not being offset has taken some getting used to.
You can preset 3 different profiles for each game you play (it can be set to auto detect when a game is launched). You can also set each of the profiles to a different color for the back lit keys and display. I play a lot of fps shooters (combat arms, left 4 dead, killing floor, call of duty 4 mainly right now), as well as WoW. So far the only time I use the joystick is in wow though, and even then I dont use it that much. The only problem I have had so far is trying to get a team speak app to work with the display. I think it is very handy, but I dont think its for most people because of the price. -
I am with you about the G13 being a picky gameboard. The screen reminded me of my old XPS M1730. It had the same type of screen with pretty much the same functions except that it was 1/4 the size of the G13. Honestly I wish it was a bit simpler. After years of playing with keyboard is hard to get use to something that high tech. Like everything new, you just have to practice and soon you won't even look at it while you play.
Speaking of simple things. Today I came across this site and I couldn't believe that someone actually made a gameboard just the way I want it. The cybersnipa game pad V2 is simple and half the price of the G13. You guys should check it out. I am thinking about getting this one also and compare them. Like I said the Logitech is nice but I am used to using a few keys. Logitech should make the next one with detachable keys with letters that resemble the keyboard like (W,A,S,D,) Instead of the G1,G2,G3. Like I said before, after years of playing with the keyboard using simple letters now I have to reprogrammed my brain to the G keys LOL... Anyways, Check out the Game Pad V2... I think is pretty cool and they also have gaming mouse and an aluminum mouse pad...

My vote goes to the Belkin/Razer N52TE:
The included mapping software is excellent as well. -
I second the N52te. I use it for WoW, CoD: MW1/2, Borederlands pretty much any game. I love it. To me, the G13 is not nearly as ergonomic as the N52te.
The software that is included is great also for mapping certain games which allows separate profiles that open up when you launch a new game.
The only downside for me is that the thumb space bar is unusable for my hands. Other than that I fly through it with ease. Plus you can adjust the palm rest to fit your hand. -
Correction: The thumb space bar is unusable, period.
I also have problems with some multiple/simultaneous keypresses, and I've tried various polling frequencies. Apart from that, the n52te is IMO a worthy pad... but personally I'd not be totally gutted to move back full-time to the Sidewinder X6. I like the very comfortable way my hand is shaped while using the pad for gaming, but the key response is not always what I'd like - or what I would get from the swapped numberpad of the X6 for example. -
I saw that Belkin at Bestbuy but I thought it was too expensive. What kind of prices are you seeing now?
Also, is it too big to carry around? The only reason I am considering it is that the arrow keys on my laptop are too small, and I have never been a WASD control guy. I would be using this to game on my business PC on off hours, so I would need something kind of portable.
Thanks,

Since we are on the topic of the N52TE has anyone here has any problems with updating to windows 7? Or is everything still fine?

Whattaya mean, "off-axis"? My thumb rests on top of it, and when I press it, it goes the right way - down!
-
See, for me, I use the joystick to move around in WoW which makes that space button useless since you can't stop moving around in WoW lol.

Very happy with the g13. Its very well built and has a real quality feel. Had to get used to the button placements but after that its second nature. The buttons aren't very loud either. I don't have any programs for the lcd but you can right your own scripts for it. Honestly I probably will never go back to a standard keyboard for fps games again!!
Reason I got it was so I wouldn't wear out my laptop keys which would be difficult to replace from lots of gaming. -
I had my G13 for two weeks now and I just can't get use to it. I am going to keep trying to see if it gets better. I even created a custom profile with the very minimum. To me playing with the keyboard is second nature. I don't even have to look at it while I play my games. It's a shame, such a nice looking game board. I was thinking about trying the Cyber Snipa Gamepad V2. Anyone here has one. It seems to resemble the layout of a keyboard with just the necessary keys.

I've had it for over a month now and it works just fine for me cept that I can't really get myself used to the joystick
Never had any wrist pain problems with it though
-
azl205, I think you might like the N52TE. It's definitely a more ergonomic shape, and the keys feel very natural. I went from my laptop keyboard to the N52TE, and by the end of the first day I felt like I had been using it for years.
-
Thanks Mastershroom... I am going to do a little research to see if any of the local stores has it. I would like to try it before I buy it. I have to be honest , I bought the G13 based on looks but then again, I only had it for a few weeks.
-
Even if they don't have it on display, the box has a front flap sort of thing that allows you to feel the device through the packaging. It's not perfect, but it should at least give you a decent feel for the shape and key placement.
-
Best Buy always have it on display

Hm, its interesting how both owners of the 52/G13 either love it or hate it.
I have yet to see a device like them where it is nothing but a love relationship. -
sorry for the typo... I've been using the G13 for a while now and I am getting use to it... A few more days and I won't use the keyboard anymore...
-
I played with one at Fry's. The thumbstick is too vertical. You need a more tilted thumbstick to be able to use it effectively. Hold out your hand and imagine using your thumb to move an analog stick. See how you're using the right edge of your thumb?
So I bought a Saitek Cyborg, which has an adjustable thumbstick.... But the Saitek is horrible to program. I have yet to figure out how to get the software to bind keys properly. -
I've tested the feel of both the g13 and n52te in the packaging before I bought my g13. I don't know, the n52te felt a little clunky. Buttons were a bit noisy and my hand had to cup around the controller almost like holding a ball. Wasn't for me mind you still real nice. The g13 has a quality feel to it. Everything is solid.
Con's I would say was getting used to some of the buttons. I had to adjust my thumb inward a little more to emulate the space bar. the c,x, and z buttons go straight down vertically from the wasd. Got used to it in a few days so now playing a fps on a normal keyboard feels weird
I do not use the joystick for moving but for selecting things (binoculars , maps or weapons etc..) so no problems there.
The LCD display is great. Just need to figure out how to get cpu and gpu temperatures on it.
Pretty expensive but I got on sale so very happy. I'd recommend finding these in a store and getting your hand on them before you decide. I have not gamed on a keyboard since I got it
