how is this mouse for my new laptop. portability is not a concern so it need not be small but it must be wireless and aslo be okay to used for gaming

That's the mouse I use!
It's a good mouse. I really like the volume buttons on it (increase, decrease and mute the volume). As well as the back and forward buttons for web browsing. I do not use the IM and the mail buttons though. And I didn't play around with it so I don't have them configured to anything. I also don't use the extra buttons for any games (didn't get around to configuring them for BF2142). But I'm sure you can configure the buttons to do whatever you want for your games.
It's a good mouse in my opinion. -
Yes, the MX610 is quite a good mouse. I have used it a few times, and I have been impressed with its performance and comfort.

I love the MX610. It's the first scroll mouse I've owned where the scrolling works smoothly - no jerking around, no going 1 or 2 lines then jerking to the end of the page, etc.
The sounds buttons are great, backward/forward by webpages is great.
Most of the buttons are customizable, nice weight, the thumb groove is just right.
One of the best mice I've used. -
does this mouse work well if you don't use it on a desk, say on a bed or couch. do you have to use it on a flat surface so it tracks well or do i need to get a notebook well that will do this better.

I love this mouse. That's what I have. Also if you install Setpoint and with this "Ubersoft" software it will even make it better cuz you can use all sorts of buttons.

I use it on my sofa and on my leg and it works OK. Wouldn't work for gaming, but for standard stuff (email, surfing, etc.) it works fine.
