I got a Targus bluetooth mouse today and I was sorely disappointed because it went into sleep every ten seconds or so and needed a few seconds to wake up. I plan on returning it. I was wondering which mouse is better between the Logitech V470 and the Microsoft Bluetooth Notebook Mouse 5000. I plan on doing quite a bit of gaming with it as next semester will be a breeze with college apps out of the way. I'm worried about the lag from, well, anything, from wi-fi to system intensive things (like games). I am running on Vista. Which mouse is better and more responsive?

I would like a Bluetooth mouse, because I received my laptop as a gift w/ Bluetooth connectivity, so it seems a shame if I don't take advantage of it somehow. Besides, the prospect of no dongle is just too appealing. I'm leaning towards the 5000 because its sensor is in the middle of the mouse, whereas the V470's is on the side. Also, I don't really need horizontal scrolling (1680x1050 resolution). I've got one vote for the 5000. Is there really any reason why the V470 is better?

Sorry for double post, but I've heard that the 5000 doesn't have driver support, and so the third button (the back button) either doesn't work or can't be reassigned. Is this true? If it is, is Microsoft likely to release a driver for it? I'd like to be able to assign the third button to Windows Flip 3D or something.

It is true that the 5000 does not have a driver and I have read in another post in this forum that Microsoft would not be issuing driver for this particular model. And yes there is no way to reassign the extra button on the mouse.

To many times manufacture use to much bloat when it comes to their driver packages and the computer takes a performance hit. IMHO Logitech is one of those that add extra bloat to their device drivers. From automatic updates to button reassignments, to me, keep things simple. I'm not trying to start a flame war here, but am just stating the facts.

Most if not all BT mice do not require drivers, that is if you do not want to use the "special" buttons or features that are included on the device. As I said I like to keep things simple and avoid performance hits to the computer unless absolutely necessary.

My vote would be for the Microsoft 5000 if you must a have a BT mouse, otherwise as someone mentioned get a mouse that is specific to gaming.

I don't own Logitech V470 but I had V270 which has a problem with my wooden desk. The mouse pointer keep drifting and I have to use the mouse on top of white paper to fix it. I bought Microsoft BT 5000 and it works fine. I have not done extensive testing with 3d games but as far as 2d application concerns, it's very responsive.
