I am thinking about purchasing the Logitech z-5500s. Does anyone know if there is a successor for these coming out anytime soon? Also, what is a good price for them. Seems like 300 fairly average (after shipping). Thanks.

Also is Logitec ever going to make a 7.1 set?

I'm a big advocate of logitech since my mouse, keyboard, 3 sets of speakers have all been logitech. I usually keep up with logitech's pc accessories and i dont thin kthey have anythin really lined up anytime soon to replace the z5500's/

the z-5500 are highly regarded as one of the best pc speakers for gaming, movies, etc. i know logitech made the z5450 wireless rear speakers but didnt get as good of a reaction since you still had to plug the rear speakers into a power outlet so i think they're going to keep the 5500's around for a while since its an awesome set of speakers (and they're the successor to the popular z-680)

Yea, I am highly considering them. I actually almost bought the z5450. zzf had them a few months ago for $200 with free shipping. Then I saw that they needed to be plugged in (the wireless speakers), and I canceled my order.

I think I may order them from Provantage, they have the best price, and I have bought from them before. I can snag em for 280 with shipping, which seems pretty decent. They would pair up real nice with my X-Fi card! :)

yeah i would get a 5.1 system but i have nowhere to really put the rear speakers

where are you going to be placing them? i have a computer desk and the nearest wall behind me to mount them would be a good 8 feet away so i just stick with 2.1

if you are patient, Buy.com pricing for the 5500 has been as low as 259 i believe with free shipping (they come in a huuuuge box, very heavy) and if you sign up for the buy.com card u get something like 15% off up to $30 and use google checkout to get an additional $10 off.

That is a good deal. I'll have to keep an eye on Buy.com. I never try to hurry myself with electronic purchases. Always best to wait a bit.

As for mounting them, I have a wall right behind my desk that I can mount all but the surround speakers too. As for the two rear speakers, I have some ideas, but I would wait and test them out in a few locations. They might end up on the ceiling, or on some walls that are too the sides of my desk.

One thing I really like about the 5500s is that you can mount them to the wall with or just sit them on the desk with the stands they come with. It is pretty nifty.

but its good to wait, just check buy.com here and there they usually update pricing at least once a week.

I have also have great experiences with Logitech. I have bought a keyboard and two mice from them and haven't been disappointed.

I'll keep checking buy.com and see how it goes. I think I can actually get an employee discount from work with them too!
