I've seen a bunch of 1Tb external portable hard drives from WD, Seagate, Hitachi & Toshiba but all of them only come with a Usb 2.0 connection. My laptop has an eSata port so i'd like to take advantage of the higher speed but no manufacturer seems to be making a portable (2.5") combo external hard drive that does not require a separae power adapter. Please let me know if you know of any such drives.
Only option i can think of is sticking a regular 2.5" 500gb or 640gb laptop hard drive into a combo (eSata + USB 2.0) external hard drive case but I won't be getting the 1TB capacity since laptop hard drives currently max out at 640GB (i think)

    Any one got any suggestions?

Your laptop's eSATA port doesn't supply power to the drive. Thus, the enclosure would have to plug into a USB port as well to power up the drive. No manufacturer wants to make something inconvenient like that, no one would buy it. Your best bet is a Firewire enclosure, if your laptop has an IEEE1394 port. It's faster than USB 2.0 but doesn't require external power.

Look at the Seagate GoFlex drives. Alternatively, you could look for your own enclosure (or search the forum, since I believe there were solutions for powered eSATA depending on if your laptop supports it). Notebook hard drives come up to 750GB for 9.5mm height (majority of notebooks use this size), while notebook hard drives with 12.5mm height (like those used to replace ODDs) come with capacity up to 1TB. If all else fails and your notebook supports ExpressCard, consider an USB 3.0 solution.

Seagate GoFlex External hard drive, it comes with USB 2.0 but you can buy a eSATA adapter that also combos with power so only one cable... it claims in the most flexible hdd and it actually is. I currently have a 1TB of it.

Build quality isnt the greatest but it really is flexible
