So far I'm considering the AKG K26P and the Sennheiser HD280. I'm looking for something to really bring up the quality of my music (mostly metal) and gaming. Also, I need good bass and a comfortable/stable fit. Price-to-performance ratio is also important (I don't know if the K26P beats the HD280 in that respect). If there are any headphones worth looking at that are better but not around the ear style then that's fine too.

I'm also checking out the Grado SR60 and the Sennheiser HD555, I don't know who's the best out of this bunch.

I just bought the Sennheiser EH-150's a couple months ago and Sennheiser is the way to go :)

I guess you are looking for something that's a little higher quality than the EH150's, but still I think that any Sennheiser headphone gives the best price-performance ratio. The ones I have are definitely the best bang for the sub-$40 buck, and according to people who have owned Bose QC-II's they are not far off from Bose quality, except they don't have the huge Bose price tag attached. So yeah, I only have good things to say about Sennheiser :)

You may also want to check out head-fi.org if you haven't already... it's a great forum dedicated to that kind of stuff.

Obviously, Head-Fi is the better place to ask things like this, but anyway..

I assume you are going to use it with your laptop? I think Grado SR-60 is a good fit for your need - although I don't think it is very comfortable to wear (my opinion, though).

K26P is good for its price, but would not be the top choice if you don't need portability.

HD555 is very good headphones, quite comfortable too. It does have sounds more suitable to classical music, and may go over your budget.

Another good choice for your use, I think is, ATH-A500. Quite comfortable for sealed headphones, and many people likes it for music and games. I would choose it over HD280.

Grado's are nice, but they're priced higher than Sennheiser. If you shop around then you can get HD5xx for under 100 smackers, which is probably where you want to be.
