I currently own an Asus G53jw, and will be spending the next few years at Appalachian State University.

I'm looking for a case/messenger bag/backpack that will offer superior protection in an environment that will bring lows of 0F with blizzard like conditions being common through most months that I will be there.

I will also be carrying this nearly everyday, weight is not a big issue, but I'm not looking to carry around 40lbs.

    - Thanks for reading.

So far the only thing I've liked that I've found on the internet are these two:

    (A really hefty price tag.)

    And this:

    (Really heavy.)

I'd invest in a reasonable sleeve, then get a more generic backpack suited to your needs.

Also, I'd query whether you need to carry around that machine. I've just looked up the specs and for a 15-incher that is a titanic boat anchor - I had the Dell D820 (similar weight) for a short time a while back, and that never actually got carried anywhere all day.

I'm not sure about your financial situation but maybe a CULV as a standby / more regular portable might be a good idea.

I already carry this thing around every day, and have been for a few months. I have it in a sleeve, and inside the backpack that it shipped with.

The backpack, at least I feel, is low quality. It doesn't have any sort of hard shell or padding and I don't feel it sufficiently protects it from bumps or the elements.

You could look at the Axio line of softpacks - or even hardpacks, although they take less non-PC luggage.

    AXIO - HYBRID XL

It's sized for the 17" Macbook Pro however, and I can't guarantee a 5cm max thickness machine would fit.

I can attest to the build quality, which is excellent. I had the shell start to poke through the cloth around the zip on the top corner of my old Urban a couple of years ago, but that was the only thing wrong with it after, oh I dunno, 4-5 years of pretty regular use (I bought the Urban pretty much at release) - I tried to get someone else to fix it though and they wrecked the bag in the process.
