So, here I am looking for a new toy again!
I need a new TV, my 26" Insignia is killing me.
I will be using it as my main TV, home theater and obviously as a computer monitor! I'm precisely looking for a 40" HDTV
    Though I'm confused, I have a lot of options and I want to be sure I do the right choice.. First off there is these two models;
    Sony Bravia EX400
    Samsung C530/540
I know both of these monitors are good, but I'm wondering which one is the best PICTURE quality wise.. I don't care much about the sound as I will never use the TV speakers.
But here I am looking at all these TVs at BB and I see the Samsung C630 and the Bravia EX500, both of these TV have 120Hz refresh rate and a better contrast.. But is it worth it? The price difference is about 150$..
Then I see the nice LED TV from Samsung, which are much more expensive but really, really nice looking.
So I'm asking you guys, should I get the basic ones? Upgrade to a 120Hz capable display? Or should I wait for the LED TV to go down in price?
Do you think the prices will actually go down soon? Keep in mind I have a maximum budget of 900 Canadian dollars!

    Any advices are welcome!
    Thanks!

Thanks for the advice! So you dont think the upgrade to 120Hz is worth it?
I'm worried about LED becoming a new standard..

Personally probably not, i didnt notice much of a difference in stores tbh.

And nah, not yet. LED is still much more expensive. LCD will stay the standard for quite a few more years i think, until LED becomes much cheaper. I wouldnt worry about that ;)

Edge lit will never ever be as good as full on backlit. Sure it slims the TV's down to ridiculous levels of thin, but if you're not worried about thinness, backlit panels are better. Personally, since your budget is about 890 USD, the absolute BEST bang for your buck is going to be the Panasonic Viera S2 42" Plasma. Even the high end LCD's are just now catching up to plasma panels. Plasma offers superior contrast and perfect lighting.

    $899 Panasonic S2 42" 1080p Plasma HDTV:
    • 2 Million to 1 contrast ratio
    • Perfect lighting
    • Insane pixel response times
    • Lasts just as long as LCD's do nowadays
    • 600Hz on ALL the new panels
    • More natural skin tones on pictures and video

    $849 (originally $1100) SHARP AQUOS 40" 1080p 120Hz LED - LCD HDTV
    • 2 Million to 1 dynamic contrast ratio
    • 4ms Pixel Response
    • Only 120Hz
    • LED backlit

EDIT: And you stated you wanted the BEST picture quality.... All the "videophiles" know that plasma is always KING.

At least as far as I know, plasmas use a lot more electricity than LCDs, which is something to consider if you have it on all the time.

    Thanks for your advices!
I'm aware plasmas have better colors than LCD, but I they are also known for their Picture quality decreasing with the years which is quite odd..
Plus I own a TV mount that can only support TV from 26" to 40"! So Plasmas are pretty much out of the game...
As for the Sharp, I like it, but its way out of my budget, here in Canada its like 1399$ regular price, it currently on sale at 999...
    :(
