Most of the laptops you buy have 3 USB ports which can be extended with USB hub.

BUT problem arises when u have tons of USB devices & a usb hub cannot power them.

I have Two external HD's, iPod, Creative XMOD, Keyboard, Deathadder Mouse with drivers, Card reader, Digital camera, PHone..

Now i need a USB hub which comes with AC adaptor or internal battery to power all these devices.

My laptop is mostly on AC power so portability is not a big issue...but it should work without AC power for 2-3 devices atleast.

you mean this ( http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Product_Id=196201) one? it is a BELKIN 7 USB2.0 hubs.

ive seen some targus one, but this one is nicer looking, comes with lifetime warranty, and i trust belkin name more.

although, i have heard about people with problems about ANY brand of USB hubs ruining their electronics.

The Belkins are not the cheapest, but maybe that's why they just work. I have the 7 ports on 2 of our desktops and a 4 port that I use on my laptop and den desktop. The Belkins have large wall-warts, I think they are 2.5 amp. That means they can supply almost the full 500 ma to all 7 ports.

    JMNSHO &, of course, YMMV

I'll also suggest the Belkin 7-port USB hub.

    Hi folks,

Just the thing I was looking for also ... but I have a Q for your guys ...

What is the difference between Choice #1 and #2 ... the only difference that I see is that Choice #2 gives you "Over-Current Detection".

Q: Would that also act as an Over-Current Protector!?!?

    CHOICE #1
Hi-Speed USB 2.0 7-Port Mobile Hub (I found this under Laptop)
    http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Product_Id=369788

    CHOICE #2
Hi-Speed USB 2.0 7-Port Hub (I found this under Desktop)
    http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Product_Id=158910

    CHOICE #3
USB 2.0 Plus Hub (7 Port) (I found this under Desktop)
    http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Product_Id=357387

From the 3 choices above which is the BEST? And Why?

    Thanks,

    G! :)

    Hi Nocturnal,

I noticed that this thread was in July ... but I did not want to start a new Thread with my Q's ...

Actually talking to a fellow NBR ... he suggested that the AC or DC powered ones will work just fine ... you don't want to drain the power from MOBO (Motherboard) ... however, according to him you will loose some Bandwidth ... competing Hardwares trying to communicate ... so I guess you can run all 3 HDD ... but you may see some slow-down ... I am NOT sure since I have not tried it.

I am in a jam ... since my laptop does not have a Built-in Bluetooth (BT) ... I will loose 1 USB automatically to it. So, with 2 USB ... that ain't enough for me ... 1 for External DVD Burner and 1 for External 2.5" or 3.5" External and 1 for USB Cooler ... so I am short one.

I was hoping that one of the above poster who actually have used the Belkins would again chime in ...

    Let's Hope!

    G! :)

gonwk: The first one doesnt have an AC power port which makes it mobile.

the second one probably comes with a power adapter making it better for desktop use

    Hi FlipFire,

THANKS for your Help as usual!

So my choice would be either Chocie #2 or Choice #3 ... since I want a Powered one.

I think I will call Belkin Customer Service tomorrow and see which one will fit my needs BEST.

I want the Over-Current. Most likely will go with #3 since it is weighted and it looks more compact ... too bad it deos not come in Black!

    G! :)
