    Hello.
I am looking for something to wirelessly steam audio/video to my HDTV. The current notebook I use is in my signature. I would like to use this for gaming if that is possible, unless there would be a delay.

I had something like this in mind:
Atlona :: Products :: Wireless Products :: Atlona PC to HDTV, Projector or Monitor Wireless adapter (Now With 1080p!!!)

I have not been able to find much information on this type of device though. Does anyone have experience with something like this? If so, what are your recommendations? My TV itself does not have wireless capability.

    Thanks!

    Hi,

I am looking for exactly the same thing (want to hook a 42" plasma to watch fullscreen HD video). After browsing, reading and comparing for a couple of days I still can't make up my mind, but got some insights which I hope can be helpful:

    1. There is a huge selection on eBay (just search by USB+HDMI+external+video) in 50...80 USD price range. But none of their descriptions explicitly tell fullscreen HD video and gaming is possible. Seems they are designed for presentation and office work, rather than game and video. I tell it because the product you refer to has similar description, so it makes me believe it may be an overpriced version bloated with features you don't necessary need (like wireless HDMI).
    2. The one I just found ( Sewell HDdeck USB to HDMI - SW-31000, $99.95) has a more promising description, mentioning DirectX, Hi-Def video and games ("... such as StarCraft 2"). It is also twice cheaper ($99.95) and several customer reviews mention ("almost") full-screen video. Maybe their customer service can give you better picture.
    3. This Sewell product is mentioned to use DisplayLink chip, so it may make sense to google for other products based on the same chip - maybe you'll find something that better suits your needs.

I left messages to several sellers, and if I end up buying and testing by time you decide - I post here.

Hope someone spots up this tread and adds some personal experience.

That Sewell HDdeck looks decent. I think that is now top of my list. Any updates would be appreciated, thanks!

Found something even better: a chip maker (DisplayLink) shop with a list of products using full range of these chips:
    DisplayLink Store
After comparing the descriptions, it appears that the product you originally referred to is based on an older chip (DL-165) and is indeed positioned rather for document/Internet browsing rather than video and gaming.
It makes sense to focus on anything that uses DL-195 and look for better price and gamers' reviews.
I am personally inclined to this one which has native HDMI output, and I want to hear how advanced audio sounds in the downloaded movies:
Atlona :: Products :: Converters & Scalers :: PC to TV Converters :: ATLONA 2ND GENERATION USB TO HDMI CONVERTER 1080p
Though, I'd prefer something twice cheaper.
Seems, Ebay and Amazon can offer better price range.

And still hoping someone more dedicated to subject matters posts here one day...

This looks decent. Pretty similar to what I see on eBay.
The question is, can any of these boxes have capability to offload the decompression of AVC/MPEG4/etc video from the main CPU?
Or does it make sense to look for an USB box with such capability?
F.ex., my system only has 2,4GHz Celeron, and it's definitely not able to play AVC HD video fullscreen using on-board card.
Can the USB to HDMI box make life easier? I absolutely don't want to change the motherboard, and it doesn't have AGP or PCIe slots.
So my only other option seems to be classic legacy PCI video card, but it doesn't seem any of these ever had GPUs powerful enough for that task.
Can someone give more insight on that?

You have an M1730... why wouldn't you use a DVI->HDMI adapter? Much less expensive and better performing than a USB video solution. If you're stuck with VGA out only, check to see if the TV has VGA IN (many do), otherwise you'd be better served with something like this so you can use the internal acceleration of your video card for movies and such.

Same for everyone else... why are you looking for USB video output? Unless you need it for a 3rd monitor or your computer doesn't have any sort of video output port, it's probably the wrong solution. USB output shows itself as another video card, and the bandwidth on USB2.0 is nowhere near what you want for good, lag-free video output.

Well I am looking for something that is wireless. I did not realize that Sewell HDdeck was not wireless when I quickly glanced at it before. Right now I use VGA to VGA to do hook my m1730 to my TV but it is not a wireless setup. so far, the Atlona and iogear look the best, but probably would not be sufficient for gaming... not too sure though.
