I had a Zen vision m mp3 player but it was stolen from my clothes while i was at gym classbut it was free so that makes me less guilty for having it stolen.
So i was looking to buy a new mp3 player becasue my sister wants hers back since schools starting soon, so i was looking at the Zune 80GB but any other suggestions are good and i wont buy an ipod i an a itunes phobic and really do not want to buy one.

The Zune is great, only thing is that you are tied to the software included. You are not able to use Winamp or "drag 'n drop" using explorer. Sound quality is excellent and the wi-fi is great for updating podcasts.

i currently have a ZVM, but i've been looking at the iriver spinn.although it's now available in the US yet.
-
I hate iTunes and don't buy anything from iTMS but I have to say that the iPod Touch is one of the best portable media devices I have ever used.

There's the more expensive Cowon A3. The sound quality is excellent and supports a wide variety of file formats although there's no support for files with DRM. Also there's the Archos line of products which are supposed to be some of the best, but I don't know much about them.

I thought about getting an Archos, but after doing a lot of research, it seems like their UI is buggy as all heck, and I'm tired of putting up with stuff like that. Yeah, it's a swiss army knife, but the screwdriver never works right.
I've also heard really good things about the iRiver Clix line.Last edited by a moderator: May 5, 2015 -

What about the normal Creative Zen? You can get up to 32GB in solid state and the battery time is good.

i like the zune for its price point of $250 CAD but the eq is a bit of a problem any other suggestions. Anyone know if the samsung p2 will have a 32gb version?

The Cowon D2 is better than the P2 unless you need the bluetooth. Of course thats just my opinion, but I've researched all of them fairly well. If you haven't come across it already www.anythingbutipod.com is a good site to compare players. I would advise against the Creative Zen though because they seem to break, if not at first, then a year down the road the WSOD(white screen of death) will happen, at least it did to me and many others who own that player. All the players on the market right now though, I'd go with the Cowon D2. But maybe if you can wait a month more players might be released at the European CES or whatever they call it, I forget.

I heard some of the Samsungs are pretty decent. The Cowon's are pretty hard to beat, most of them are pretty amazing for what they do and are. I've only really heard a lot of great reviews and things about Cowons. I would've gotten one if I hadn't wanted more room and video ability.
Personally, I have a Zune 80, I pre-ordered it more than a month earlier than it launched but had to wait a month for it, because of the demand (Darn you Amazon! D: ). I really like it, it works well. Personally, I think that you don't entirely need an EQ unless you have hearing problems or are a bass freak or something. The preset EQ works pretty well. My PSP has a bassier sound, but it has a few preset EQ settings.
I do hate using the Zune software, but it's not horrible or anything. It's not all that hard to use, and they have since worked out the syncing bug where it would sometimes unsync random CDs from the Zune. (I have to update mine so that it stops doing that, I have an older software edition.)
Before the Zune, I had a Creative Zen: V 2 GB which worked very nicely, I only froze it once, but it was my fault. My friend now has it, and I think it's still working well. It was very sturdy, but it had a few dings in it as I had dropped it a few times. The Zune has been dropped a little bit, but it shows no sign of it, and the SCREEN IS ABSOLUTELY AWESOME. I pretty much am pretty rough on my stuff, like my PSP screen is scratched, but the Zune screen is absolutely perfect. It's definitely built pretty well. -
Are you in college? I am guessing not since you mentioned gym class. Anyway if you are I STRONGLY suggest a Ipod Touch. Very good for wifi enabled places (most colleges nowadays). You can check your email in class or browse a bit if it gets too boring without bringing your notebook to class everyday.

Hey. I'd go with the zune 80 despite the eq thing. As an Itunes hater I've had sonys, creatives, archi (archoses?), and both gens of zune - which means importing for we poor people who live in the UK (first Gordon Brown, and now no Zunes? When will it end!).
The zune is the first of my non apples where most people tend to think it looks swish, and since I got my Zune 80, six other people in the year followed suit... that I know of. Considering Apple dominance that's not bad for 5 or 6 months converting that many people, and that's with the added effort of importing (okay minimal effort, but still). Zune is definately the way to go dude.
Regarding the software, it's a bit resource intensive, but actually nice on the eye and intuitive for basic use. You can leave it on your big screen at a party and technophobes familiar with only Itunes will be able to use it without difficulty. Oh, and tbh, the pink is just funky! -

I loved my ZV:M! Unfortunatly it got stolen twice so my latest MP3 player is now a Zune 80. The ZV:M had a wonderful screen, way better than Zune or Ipod with a whole lot more colors and sharper look. The Zune or anyother device will look like crap when you first get it, but you'll get use to it soon (I have). The Zune does have a bigger screen which is better for a viewing movies and pics. Sounds great and is simple enough. But the ZV:M is one of the greatest MP3 players ever. The only thing it suffered from was occasional hiccups and slow seeking in video mode. The Zune feels really simple next to it because it doesn't have the right-click like function or radio recording or a good sorting video category and only 1 playlist on the go you can make.
ZV:M>Zune
A ZV:M with the screen size of a zune and its fast hard drive for seeking through movies, and the slimness of the zune would be perfect. The only thing that stopped me from getting anoth ZV:M is that its screen size(no matter how good the quality) is just too small. -

I know a bashed a bit on the Zune in my previous post but it's still a good option to go with. I heard the New Zen doesn't handle as many video types as did the ZV:M and it only goes up to 32 GB last time I checked for a steep price. Flash memory on it is a plus because of its speed and its resistance to drops and general turbulence from everyday use but 32 GB is a bit low. I know you add more with its SD slot but do you really want to be writing to a card all the time and checking not to repeat files on it? Sounds like a hassle to me.

the zune seems like a good replacement since i can pick one up for $250 CAD with a custom design on the back. It seems almost like the creative vision M but without a voice recorder and less supported codecs. So i may end up just buying this and wait till a samsung p2 comes out with more memory
Looking for a Zen Vision M replacement
