Purpose:
So I'm setting up my TV entertainment area using one of my laptops as means for streaming and light gaming. I've used a pair of cheap wired keyboard and mice at first, since the nice ones are connected to the desktop. Then I realized that all of those cables are a real pain, so decided to go wireless.
Initial Purchases:
I bought Logitech MK520 combo. I liked both the keyboard and the M310 mouse, the connection was ok and software was actually pretty good. My only problem with the mouse is the lack of sidebuttons, which I'm used to since MX518 and G400.
So then I've done a tiny bit of research and impulse bought Logitech M510 mouse, which seemed to have decent aggregate reviews on pretty much all websites. That thing is horrible, it scrapes on my touchpad instead of hovering/gliding like M310, it loses connection and doesn't track well. It's also a bit too "fat" or maybe tall for my liking and the grip is uncomfortable. So that monstrosity is going back.
Research:
So now I'm looking for a new mouse. I came across Logitech Wireless Anywhere Mouse MX, which people seem to praise. It would be nice to keep things on one unifying Logitech receiver. However that model apparently had a refresh, which changed the top cover from matte surface to glossy, which ends up in fingerprints and sweaty palms. Amazon's partnered resellers offer the old model for nearly $70, which is way too much. Ebay offers manufacturer refurbished for $30, which I'm considering. There is also this store offering as recertified. I'm wondering what would be the best option.
Advice Needed:
So I'm looking for possibly more options in the category, some personal experiences with different products and possibly experience with Logitech Anywhere MX. The mouse doesn't have to be Logitech, all I want is 2 sidebuttons, nothing fancy and crazy like G700s. My budget for this is around $40.

I have had my Logitech G602 wireless gaming mouse and I love it so far - the best mouse I have ever used. You should really check it out, in my opinion no other wireless mouse competes with this, the range is magnificent, it has a 500Hz wireless gaming-grade receiver with a Delta Zero sensor, so it is extremely accurate - I feel no difference from high end wired mice. The best part - it feels so comfortable! It really fits perfectly in your hands and the material used just makes it perfect to use. It has 6 side buttons which are all placed where you can actually press every single button without really moving your thumb - unlike other mice. Battery life is 250 hours non-stop in gaming mode, and in endurance mode it is over 1000 hours.
Saying that, it is double your budget at $80... but it really is worth it, you will not be disappointed. I also have this mouse set up for my TV gaming setup, which my M11X is hooked up to for the time being until my desktop replaces it. -
Thanks for the advice, it certainly has a lot of sidebuttons in fact around 6 or 8 of them! I mean I could order it and return it if I didn't like it of course. However this whole fits into your hand perfectly is very case by case basis.
I just need 2 buttons and preferably closer to $40. I have my wired mice for gaming performance and dpi, etc. What I want is something like Logitech M310 with 2 sidebuttons, M510 wasn't it unfortunately. -
I'm using a Razer Orochi, at black friday they were on sale for only 44$.

Doing some research, some people seem to have concerns. RAZER Orochi 2013 - Newegg.com Do you use it wirelessly most of the time?
Wish I could try it out in a store, BestBuy only sells Orochi online. going out to play with Logitech Anywhere MX later today. -
Alright, so I went to a couple of stores, tried Logitech Anywhere MX, G602, and G700s. Also played with some Razer mice like Naga and Deathadder I think, but they were all wired. G602, which was recommended earlier has those buttons on top of the left click which I feel I would press accidentally and way too many buttons, which would not be used. It did feel very comfortable.
Logitech Anywhere MX was nice, but a bit small for my hands, I could probably live with that though. I wonder if Orochi is even smaller? -
You can always disable the buttons you fear you will hit accidentally.
-
I got my MX anywhere around 30 bucks new so you should definitely wait/ look around for them. They are awesome

I have the older one and the newer one, and the matte is my favorite. I loved that mouse; unfortunately, the tracking/clicking sort of malfunctioned and I had to get the newer one. With that said, the new one is still fine, it's just the matte surface was unbeatable.

The thing i said about recommending the Razer Orochi... i take it back.. mine died after 25 days!!!
-
i've been using mine for like 1.5 years now...sorry to hear that yours gave up so fast. -
-
LMAO!!! -
Well I looked up dimensions finally.
First here is Logitech G400, which is close to MX518 and G5, which is a golden gaming standard for me in terms of simplicity and comfort. Width 73mm / Length 131mm / Height 43mm / Weight 137g
M310: 62 mm x 111 mm x 39 mm (I liked it, but no side buttons)
Anywhere MX: 63mm x 90.5mm x 34.5mm / Weight 121g
Razer Orochi: 67.8mm x 99mm x 35mm / Weight 141g
So size wise I think I would like Orochi more, I guess big hands prefer longer mice. I will try it out if I don't like the Anywhere MX. Still Newegg user reviews for Orochi makes me a little worried. It seems like people who use it wired have mostly positive things to say, while people using it with Bluetooth majority of the time have a lot of complaints. -
The rest of the issues are about Razer's customer support, can't help you with that. -
Well they also complain about its sleep/reactivation feature which apparently can't be turned off and Razer's Synapse software with cloud nonsense.
-
I didn't really think about size; I have pretty small hands so the size didn't really bug me. I guess it's a little noticeable when I play League, but I plan on buying a wired mouse anyways.
Looking for a decent wireless mouse with side buttons!
