    Hey there,

I've got a Dell Inspiron 1520 on order and am looking for a nice set of laptop speakers to go along with it. I'm a college student so I'll be in a dorm and space is an issue so the smaller the better.

I saw these on Amazon and they look like they might do the trick.

Price really isn't an issue for me. I'd prefer to get quality speakers rather than trying to save money at this point. I'm not looking for speakers that are going to wow anyone, just something a little more substantial than the speakers on my laptop.

    Thanks.

If you really want a decent set of speakers, get something with a dedicated subwoofer. A small subwoofer will fit easily under your desk. I have a fairly ancient set of Altec Lansing speakers which are still perfectly good.

To be honest, the quality you'll get out of pretty much any set of desktop speakers is fairly low compared to what you can get from a serious hifi setup. On the other hand, those get very pricey and take up a lot of space very quickly. A full set up of power conditioner, mixer, amp, and good speakers will run you on the order of $1500, and if you are really going top shelf, you'll may that much for the cheapest component. Of course, you'd also need a rack to hold it all, so...

Anyway, get yourself a set of speakers with external analogue volume control and a subwoofer. If you can get it from someone like JBL, or even Bose, you'll be in pretty good shape.

i bought the logitech v20s myself about a month ago, and i have no complaints about them whatsoever. the only minor detail is that you can't hook it onto other audio devices like mp3 players, but that's why you have music on my laptop anyway. they're extremely portable, and if you're running windows vista, it works fine with it too. plug-and-play.

    edit

it sucks that you're looking now. i bought mine when buy.com had a rebate on them so i got them for about $35. by the looks of it amazon.com is slightly cheaper than buy.com

I wanted a 2x speaker affair for space reasons and after a load of research I brought these and I've very pleased with them.
