I'm looking for a new headset. I'd like for it to be compatible with the Xbox360 and PC, and cost no less than $150. Wireless is a plus. I don't need something incredibly audio engineered, I just want a really nice headset or whatever. I'd prefer to stick away from Turtle Beach and other brands of the sort.

    Check out the Sony XB-500's

I will pay for them, if you don't agree they are the best sounding with the best bass, and most comfortable headphones you have ever tried in your life.

Hardly appropriate for a gaming headset.

Any headset by Sennheiser will give you good quality for what you're paying. As always, the best sound quality / cost will come from buying regular headphones and a desktop / clip-on mic.

" I have been told in the past that buying "gaming" headsets is not usually the best way to go, as buying ones made by the "real audio people" tend to be better."
    "All suggestions are appreciated."

I know they're not meant for gaming, but I use them for gaming and music and I have never in my life seen headphones that have better sound, bass, and comfort. I have been told in the past that buying "gaming" headsets is not usually the best way to go, as buying ones made by the "real audio people" tend to be better. + They're at a pretty convenient price IMO

In my honest opinion, I think those Sennheisers look like junk. The actual drivers where the sound is coming from look like they would produce bad sound quality and absolutely no bass. And the earcups look horrible, must be extremely hard and uncomfortable. I've had Sennheisers before, I would not recommend.

If you try/buy these, you will thank me later.

I have a Sennheiser HD 202. Cost me about 20 bucks on Amazon.com, and they are a pretty good deal for the money.

My stand alone microphone was about $1 during a store's fire sale. Works pretty well. :D

Honestly, unless you are a huge audio fan, i don't think you need a $100 headset. But that's just my opinion...

A little more on the expensive side but I use the Bose QC15 with a desktop mic. The pair I got I won from a promotion, but I would definitely buy a pair after using them regularly.

I might be upgrading my Plantronics GameCom 777 to either the Corsair Vengeance 1500/2000 or the GameCom 780.

    Lets get real here.

If you want the most out of your $80.00 do not buy a headset. Buy quality headphones and a Zalman Clip on microphone, or even a desktop microphone.

I have used the combination of a pair of good cans and the Zalman clip on microphone for years. This setup will blow any Headset, 5.1 gimmick, gaming headset, out of the water.

Here are a few links to some headphones I highly recommend. Any audio guy will more than likely agree with me. If $80.00 is your budget here are some good buys.

Zalman Zm-Mic1 - Get it, its awesome.

Amazon.com: Zalman Zm-Mic1 High Sensitivity Headphone Microphone: Electronics

Sony MDR-V6 - Awesome bass, and at the same time it has quite good sound quality.

Amazon.com: Sony MDR-V6 Monitor Series Headphones with CCAW Voice Coil: Electronics

Koss ProDJ1000 - This has a bit better sound stage than the Sony, tad less bump.

    Amazon.com: Koss ProDJ100 Headphones: Electronics

Audio Technica ATH-AD700 - These are simply killer headphones. Probably one of the best sound stages for the money. Not as much bass as you'd expect, but the sound quality you will get out of these will blow your mind.

Any of these cans are a good buy. If you can swing it get the AD700's.

These are my picks, look up reviews and you'll see they are all great headphones.

Amazon.com: Buying Choices: Audio Technica ATH-AD700 Open-air Dynamic Audiophile Headphones

The honest fact is, headsets are a rip off. At least if you want the most for your dollar. I'm not saying the brands that make them are bad, I'm just saying generally they are overpriced.

Now you can't really say one brand is better than another because most top brands each put out quality headphones in many different price categories.

Any good options for ones $150 or less?

Also, something preferably both compatible with XBOX360 and PC...

Get Sennheiser, they build quality headphones and the microphone is great as well if you need to use the mic for things other than gaming.

And these are compatible with both PC and XBOX?

Those are some attractive headsets, however their XBOX ones don't seem to be compatible with PC. And I'd like one I can use for both.

Gamecom 780. Great headset, affordable and sound great. For the price, I'd recommend them any day.

Im quite happy with my turtle beach headset... not sure if its in the range of what you are looking for though. I have a pair of Sennheiser HD 555 headphones and the turtle beach ones sound almost as good, but have just a little more bass.

If you are looking for standard headphones (for music, movies and such), anything from Bose, Sennheiser + Sony should suffice. At the prices you are thinking of, however, basically anything you choose will be high-quality headphones.

However, if you are planning on playing games with these headphones I would strongly suggest that you take a look at some of these "Turtle Beach and other brands of the sort", even if it is not something you were considering. But make sure that the headphones you are buying are true surround rather than virtual, since then you might as well just buy a normal set of headphones and use software to create the same effect.
