As of right now, I have a targus chillmat. It used to be dead silent. Now its very loud and makes a zzzzzzzzz noise. I have a mic on my notebook and the noise can be heard in the background. Is there a cooler where the noise will be very low and wont be able to hear in the background? Im am quite cheap. Ill spend 30 dollars maximum.

I was looking at the 49.99 zalman one at newegg though. Everyone seems to love that one. Is it worth 50 bucks?

My notebook is an Asus A8JP.

Did you ever consider a fanless notebook cooler, such as the Thermaltake iXoft? They supposedly work good, although not AS good as fan powered coolers.

It depends on how much and how loud you can tolerate. The Zalman is a nice one, but cost around ~$50 USD.

Check out the cooling guide. There is some great discussion going on in the last 5 - 10 pages or so about notebook coolers.

As noted that Thermaltake iXoft does work quite well.

the zalman cooler is actually top notch imo. u should check the placement of ur fan intake though. i got it for my 17" notebook i have and its too small for a 17". that and my fan intake was just above where the air grills end. it is definitly designed for a 15". but it worked great with my acer. :D

I have the Zalman cooler for my 17" dv9000t. The Zalman is about a 1 1/4" narrower than the dv9000t. However cool air is pushed out at the sides and front of the notebook. Cooling is great, lowered my CPU and HDD temps 11C.
