Looking for a quiet wireless mouse

Is there a quiet, wireless mouse out there yet? I'd even settle for a wired one if it was quiet, comfortable to use, and good quality.

I came across the Bornd Silent Mouse 120, which apparently has buttons that are a bit hard to press (my hand gets tired already from clicking all day, so that is not much use)

And there are the Nexus mice, but it seems they have some quality issues.

Anyone have any experience with a mouse that doesn't make the annoying clicking sound? I'm not expecting something totally silent, merely a mellow sound, more like my laptop mouse buttons (I have an HP 8740w which has nice mellow-sounding mouse buttons - in fact I find myself clicking with my left hand on my laptop, while moving the mouse with my right when I'm at home . . . )

Very few mice these days have a non clicking mechanism to engage the buttons. Doesn't mean there aren't some out there. Best term to search with is “capacitive touch button mouse" or something along those lines.

Wouldn't want a touch mouse - I'm assuming that would be like how a mouse pad works, were you can touch to click. I find that annoying.

There's nothing about a switch that makes it necessary that there be a click; otherwise we would not have keyboards that did not click as you typed. I can understand having the click on older mice where response was slow, but it makes no sense now. I like the tactile feedback, but not the sound.

A non-touch mouse won't be guaranteed silent then. There will be some slight sound when the micro switch inside is pressed.

Finding a quiet click mouse is somewhat arbitrary. Some will be more quiet than others, and it will depend on your own point of view whether or not any particular mouse is quiet enough for what you want.

Good luck! (you're gonna need it)

I'm not asking for completely silent, just relatively quiet. Very subjective I know, just would like a mouse that would not annoy my partner when I'm clicking away on something while she's in the room. I like the sound of the mouse buttons on my laptop; more of a low thunk than a click, and it is not audible unless you're standing nearby. Every mouse I've used is clearly audible from some distance, which is what I would like to avoid.

That is an interesting mouse you found though, thanks for the link. If it were a little cheaper I'd try it (might still do . . . )

Open up a mouse switch and you will immediately understand why it is necessary for them to make a click. Without the click, you have no feedback and simply a mushy button to press.

However, you can open up any mouse main button switch and modify it to make less noise, although the noise reduction goes hand-in-hand with less tactile feedback.

I've actually done this to a couple of mice so as not to annoy my girlfriend, and it works pretty well. It just feels weird going between an unmodified mouse and a modified mouse, because there is a large difference in the force required to depress the buttons.

The best wireless mouse that I have ever owed was a logitech G7, it was fairly quite and had a swap-able battery so that you wouldn't have any down time. It was very responsive and lasted me quite awhile, though logitech no longer makes them and they are hard to find. With that note, I would buy another one today if I found it.

For gaming, the Logitech G7's laser sensor is very cruddy and its wireless is not up to par. Also if one plans to use it just as a basic desktop mouse, its battery life is not even in the same ballpark as the competition. I still prefer wired optical mice, but wireless and laser mice have come a very long way since the G7 was first introduced.

My favorite quiet mouse is SwiftPoint, its tiny but works great, with the buttons in a good place and it doesn't take a ton of effort to click the buttons. The best quiet mouse for scrolling is the Logitech T400 but the upper shell has to be split and the standoff filed for the Left/Right buttons to feel silky smooth, but the have a cricket click to it you may not like, but its a quieter cricket. Another device I like a lot is the Bamboo Capture pen, this is a mouse replacement with touch pad and that is quiet if you know how to program the toggles on the pen or the slightly louder pad buttons; the touch pad is quiet like a laptop touchpad only bigger.

Used to play with an old mouse with optical switches for buttons. I miss that baby.

I've thought of going with a tablet instead of a mouse. I want to get one anyway for graphics work, and once I get used to the difference it certainly would be quieter. I should finally spend the $$ and get one.
