Hey guys,
I have my new 16" dell in production and I have a plane to catch on the 26th. I am looking for a very spacious backpack with a laptop compartment and have it completely security safe for under 50 bucks.
Some key features I would like are:
- 16" Laptop compartment
- MP3 Player compartment and wire hole so i can listen to music with my backpack on
- A compartment for text books
- Cell phone compartment (just an idea)
I do really like this backpack,

But I am not sure that my laptop would fit since its a 16" Dell and that only fits up to 15.8... Do you think its still doable? Let me know!!
Thanks for the help!
- Joey!

You can use any bag that doesn't exceed the allowed size and weigh allocations in Europe. -
I think OP is looking for a backpack than can be locked using padlocks, or similar.
Regarding the backpack, should fit the XPS 16 (assuming) just fine. -

It might mean that the notebook does not have to be removed from the backpack to be scanned.
-
I think they always ask you to remove it nowadays...
Also, how would the airport official quickly see that - they'd hardly memorize a few hundred backpacks.
Especially as they tend to nowadays be underpaid external security staff... -
OP, you can submit a laptop in a sleeve, they will accept that... but if it is inside the bag, you will be asked to remove it and put it on a tray separately.
so, get a nice backpack and enjoy your flight... or try to. -

Tinderbox... in all my travels... and yes, i've done quite a few... (1.5million miles and counting)... intelligence and TSA never went in hand in hand...
yea, they made me take out my laptop despite whatever my bag says...
and also, try explaining to the folks over in italy or for that matter, any non-english speaking countries that this bag is TSA approved... -

If that`s what the OP wants who am i to argue about it, your most likely right about him still having to remove the notebook anyway.

Sorry for the confusion,
First: Yes I meant TSA Approved
Secondly:
These 'TSA Approved' bags apparently make it easy for you says this article,

Third:
Yes I do have the XPS 16, sorry for the confusion, it was rather late last night so I wasn't thinking about all the details, shouldn't have posted a thread like that rofl.
Thanks for the help guys!

flying is really tricky these days...
take my recent trip to europe...
on my way, my colleague and i were allowed to check in 2 luggages and bring 1 carry on without any info on overcharges and limitations.
throughout the trip, from milan to paris, same, 2 bags checked fine, but due to the plane being so small and overcrowded, they really limited the handcarry down to the size of bags and i was forced to check in one of my bags, just because the other one is a small camera bag... and hence carried my laptop on a sleeve and had my camera bag on me.
then on the return flight, they tell me they allow only 1 checked bags...
same airline...
of course, my million miler status got me in the clear but for my colleague, it took some pleading and arguing to waive the 50 euro surcharge...
it is quite ridiculous...
my suggestion is to research well in advance the amount allowed to check in and also the size allowed for handcarry and despite it being TSA approved... don't rely on it 100%...
travel light and easy...
even if i fly business class, which i seldom do, i go in sweatpants with easy slip on slipper/shoes... belts, watches and fat wallets along with chains and other decorative accessories becomes just another hassle. -
Hmm... on my flights in Europe I go for Suit and tie
- never had any problems
but then I do move my watch to my bag in advance - then put it back on.
cufflinks can stay on by the way... Since about 1 year ago I have to remove my belt... (why on earth, its a plain black leather belt... not even very wide...)
Shoes I'm allowed to keep on
Oh, and my hand luggage can be rather overweightnobody complained yet though...

Rofl this is a funny thread XD
Also I do want a backpack because i can have other things in it, I don't want two carry ones (messenger AND another bag.. why dont I just have it all in one?)
And another reason for my curiosity about TSA Approved bags, there was an article that at the security checkpoint something like 3000 laptops get either 'lost' or 'stolen' and I sure as heck don't want that... I saved a pretty penny for this machine! -

I never really heard of people actually losing their laptops at the airport....I mean, that would totally make your vacation suck! I wonder if anyone has actually been denied to enter the gates because they have a laptop rofl -
firstly, i would not take my laptop to a vacation...
secondly, so many people take things for granted these days...
hotels for one, if you leave valuables out there, it will get taken... regardless of how posh or upper class your hotel is... it happened to my mother in St. Regis hotel... and it will happen if you dont take care of your belongings...
if you check your luggage, with valuables in it, then you are taking too much risk... more so if your bag can be easily opened.
yes, i've shipped laptops and desktops before in checked bags... but it's not something i'd do if it was of immense value.
furthermore, they are quite brutal with the checked bags...
but then... live and learn...
folks will still check their bags in unlocked...
folks will still leave valuables in their hotel room unsecured...
things will be lost... or stolen...
and one more thing... no i've never been denied at the gates because i had an exposed laptop... this will not happen... but go to a firing range, then go use your laptop and add the fact that your laptop has zero battery life... yea, you're going to have issues... -
