I'm looking for a moderately priced set of desktop speakers (around 50-150 dollars)
I looked at the Logitech Z2300 2.1 Speakers, but after some measurements i noticed my computer desk can only fit a subwoofer 9" wide, and the z2300's are 11"
So, i'm looking for some suggestions, i'd say their main usage would be for music, but i also watch movies and sometimes gaming with them.
Thanks for your help!

I don't know about the measurements, but if you like the Z-2300, check out the Klipsch ProMedia 2.1.
-
I'd suggest the klipsch promedia too. If not those then you could check out the Swan M10's.
-
I'll just add that subs don't need to go *on* your desk.
-
Yeah, I always put that under but I see where it's all about the Bass for some "enthusiasts".
-
^Fair point. I kept my sub on my desk at my dorm last year (university provides unbelievably huge desks), but now my desk is pretty cramped (barely enough horizontal room for N52TE + 15.6" laptop + eXactMat mousepad) so the sub goes on the floor.
-
It's also worth mentioning that the subs are not usually magnetically shielded, although the satellites usually are on 2.1 systems.

YES!!!!
after seraching around, it came down to choosing speakers and i got it at bestbuy for 150bucks total (post-tax). this speakers are phenomenal, im coming from some crappy dells, so they aer much better. i also like them aesthetically, the shape of it for some weird reason :S
for me it was down to klipsch vs edifier S330D vs logitech advanced surround sound 2.1 speakers (off ebay for ~70bucks). i chose klipsch at the end cuz they just rock!
ive heard both GOOD and BAD things about Z-2300, so search around a bit before you buy. -
Keep in mind that a lot of people who talk about speakers that they don't own have only tried them in an environment like Best Buy, which is a very unrealistic and acoustically awful place to test speakers, because the entire store is essentially one giant room, nothing like a bedroom or office where you would normally keep such speakers.
I maintain that my Z-2300's sound excellent, and easily on par with the Klipsch ProMedia, but when I turned on the demo Z-2300 at Best Buy the other day, it sounded horrible. Some sounds were drowned out from the background noise of such a busy store and the open acoustics of the building itself, so it sounded pretty bad. -
i by no means am saying the Z-2300 are bad, in fact they were my first choice until i found the logitech z cinema which had that nice remote and cool looking speakers. Z-2300 seem awesome, i havnet heard em, but ive heard enough positive reviews to make me incline to say so. a lot of ppl recomended klipsch, and i thought how bout i try a company who is dedicated to speakers for once? and they turned out pretty dam good!

Just got myself over the weekend a set of ALTEC LANSING VS4121(BLK) for $79.
Satellite amplified speakers:
*2/28mm microdrivers + 1/3" mid-range
Subwoofer:
*1/6 1/2 long-throw woofer
Peak power : 62 watts>
Awesome sound. -
lol, Nice 62 watts. My subwoofer uses 1500 watts.
-
I'll also highly recommend the Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 speakers.
However, it is important to note that what are defined as good speakers are still subjective IMHO.I'll urge the OP to check out as many speakers as possible in person & if needed, even buy a few of them back to test the speakers out at the environment they are to be used.
Of course, to do this, it is important to buy the speakers from a reseller/retailer with good return policy.
Good luck. -

Personally, I couldn't tell the different in terms of sound quality between the Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 and the Logitech Z-2300. I'm not in any way an audiophile, but both sounded equally as good to me. I purchased both and returned the Klipsch due to the fact that the Logitechs were more aesthetically appealing.

I'd say the Z-2300.

I own a Z-5500 set, so I'm very much a Logitech fan.
But for the 2.1 system, go for the Klipsch ProMedia 2.1. I think they sound great, better than Logitech's. To me the midrange comes out a lot more clear than it does on the Z-2300.
As for sub placement, shouldn't it always go on the floor? I keep my Z-5500 sub in a corner, and from my testing it actually does sound louder (without losing sound quality). A lot of a sub's resonance comes from the vibrations it gives out, so placing it on a floor (especially in a corner) will help it as it can vibrate the floor and walls to give more sound.
Looking for good desktop speakers
