Quality wise though, it is better to get headphones.

Just got the Sony MDR-V6's and I must say, they are amazing.
Most people complain about the tightness, but I thought they were just fine, even after an extended listening period (~6-7 hours today).
$70 on amazon -
Grado SR 60i has excellent sound quality.

Go sony!! -
any suggestion for 3.5mm headset (with mic) ??
3-in-1 3.5mm jack I mean, able to transfer stereo sound and mic input?
I want to use it as a handsfree for my PDA Phone.
My Dopod 900 has this kind of headset, but it's broken. and the quality is not as nice as Sony Ericsson headset anyway. -
there is always extension that allows you to plug a mic in between
testing it now with a 320kbps(CBR) track, i find my BOSE triport(cover ear) headphone seems to produce a better separation than the etymotic E6i in-ear
a surprised cuz i have always feel E6i sounds more pleasant albeit they were all lower quality tracks -
If you want one with a mic then I highly suggest the Phonak Audeo PFE's with the mic. Or without the mic if you don't want one.
-
Thanks for all the responses, sorry I haven't gotten back, spring break
.
I think I am either going to go with the ATH-A700 or the MDR-V6, the $40 difference is of course a consideration, but does anyone have any thoughts on the sound quality comparatively? -

That's what I was thinking anyway so good. I'm going to go ahead and order them, my roommate has the xbox out here now too, and while I appreciate games, I don't need to hear it...
-
Awesome! I am quite sure you will enjoy them!
-
Finally got them in, after all sorts of annoying shipping problems.
I underestimated how big these things were, but they have to be the most comfortable pair of headphones I've ever had.
Anyway, sound, absolutely awesome (for the limited testing I have given them as I just did a reformat on my aw today too...).
To my untrained ears, they sound very open and almost real. From what I have heard the range is very good. -
As far as noise cancelling on-ear headphones the choice seems difficult and anyway pricey.
As far as I saw there is only few:
-QC3
-Phiaton PS300NC
-Denon AH-NC732
and those: http://reviews.cnet.com/best-noise-cancelling-headphones/
by any chance, did anyone compared side by side the QC3 with the Phiaton? -
Noise canceling isn't something I'd be looking for. It usually only cancels out repetitive sounds(such as motors). If you want something that really blocks out sound then get some custom fitted IEM's. I've never had isolation like this, and I've used noise canceling headphones. And thats not even taking into account how comfortable they are.
-
A good IEM would better than most noise canceling headphones.
-
What I would call active noise cancelling, works best on low pit ched sounds and let's through higher pitched sounds.
On busses, trains and aircraft it really is useful. -
The entire technology behind the noise canceling says that it blocks out repetitive sounds best. Yes maybe it can isolate the rest of the noise out, but the noise cancellation doesn't do an excellent job at this. I've used a couple of the sony noise canceling headphones(can't remember the model due to Sonys intuitive naming scheme) and my custom IEM's block out much much more noise.
-
custom IEM FTW..
they do their jobs well..plus you can put additional drivers on it when customizing..althou will cost around 300 more..which is quite the same as noise cancelling headphones -
i have also tried the entire full size bose range in the apple shop and HMV and the noise concellation was not as good as the passive cancellation of my ultrasones. they also feel increadibly cheaply made. nothing felt solid on them.
the sound was like the entire range had been smoothed out, like plastering over a brick wall. you lost all the details, but it was strangely smooth on the ears. to me that just made it boring, but to people who dont try on every headphone in sight it might sound like quality. -
If you want active noise-canceling headphones, try the Sennheiser PXC 250. I have the PX 200 which is the non-active version, and not only do I think they sound fantastic, they still do a great job of blocking out outside noise. I'm not sure how much the PXC 250s run, but the PX 200s can be had for ~$50 USD on amazon.com.
-
I say get Sennheiser HD-555's from Amazon. They are around $110 dollars and sound amazing. I've had them for a while now and they've worked perfectly ever since I bought them.
Looking for high quality headphones ~$100
