So I'm currently using a Logitech MX Revolution for my desktop and a Logitech VX Revolution for my laptop. I love both but they are only 800dpi so I'm looking to replace them with something better suited for gaming.

I'd perfer wireless but wired is okay too.

Please vote on my above options or offer other recommendations.

Out of the options you listed in your poll, I would go with the Razer Mamba + Orochi combo...however, for the PC, unless wireless is a real necessity, I'd scale it back a bit and go for the DeathAdder instead. Same shape and 1ms response, and with a 3,500 DPI optical sensor rather than 5,600 DPI laser (unless you're running 3x 2560x1600 displays, it's more than plenty) and braided fiber cable, for half the price. If you really need the 5,600 DPI, go for the Imperator instead, which is still cheaper than the Mamba.

If you can find the Mamba for under $100 US, though, by all means go for it, as it is definitely a top-notch mouse.

The Orochi is definitely top notch for laptop use. 4,000 DPI (2,000 in Bluetooth mode) in a compact yet comfortable shape, with its own carrying pouch and detachable cord. Hell of a nice gadget.

If cost isn't an issue then sure get the Mamba and the Orochi for the laptop. I use a G9 myself and is proably my favorite mouse so far compared to a Razer Copperhead, Logitech G5, and Logitech VX Revolution.

What about logitech performance mouse MX? Is the razer mamba orochi really that good? I'm a big fan of something with high comfort; like the trackball mouse. (I don't use trackball but i agree that is really comfortable)

It excels at that. 2 grips, comfortable, hyperscrolling, professional look.

Three grips. There's a custom/ID grip that gives the G9[x] a shape approximating the older MX518 and G5[00] mice.

It's what I'm using right now.

It's a good office mouse, but it's not really a gaming mouse. DPI and response time aren't quite in that caliber. And trackballs are pretty much out of the question if you want to game with any kind of precision.
That one's not included though; you have to pay $20 extra.

Yeah, that's how I got my Orochi for $10 off Razer's own price.

The ID grip was my favorite back when I had my G9. I got it customized with the headshot symbol from Counter-Strike. :)

I agree with everyone else, it's pretty damn good for everyday use. I like both the grips that game with it and switch them around just for the hell of it. It took a little bit getting used to switching back from a wireless mouse but I don't even notice anymore. Also not having to worry about batteries running out while gaming is comforting.

I considered that too, but I'd rather a mouse with two thumb buttons instead of a button on each side. It also seems slightly smaller than the Orochi and I'm already concerned the orochi might be too small.

What is the main differences of the G9 and G9x, as far as I can tell a higher dpi on the G9x is about it. I can get a really good price on a G9 for $60, while the G9x is about $100. I'm thinking about getting a G9 for myself and if I like it getting a second one or using it on my laptop and getting a G9x for my desktop.

    What do you think?

The DPI, and from what I remember Soviet saying the laser engines are also different, with the G9x being the better laser engine.

    Otherwise, same mouse.

That's the only difference, and to be honest I think 3200 dpi is good enough. Before you buy a mouse though I would look around at your local best buy or other electronics store and see if they have display models of the different mice for you to test out. Our comfort levels could be very different with different hand sizes and mouse grip styles. So while the G9 is great for me, you may be more comfortable with the form of the Razer mice instead.

Problem is I can't find any of the mice I want locally. I did have a chance to use a G9 about a year ago briefly but that was it. I'm considering ordering it for my desktop since $60 is a great price I think. I'd probably still use my MX Revolution for daily stuff. I've tried the deathadder at a local store and liked the feel, my biggest concern with Razer products is that all the store display products look faded and worn out. I'm wondering how they actually hold up.

I'm only trying to decide on a desktop mouse now. I've ordered a Razer Orochi for my M11x, I just didn't want to deal with wires or a usb dongle so the bluetooth Orochi seemed perfect for me.

I'm also looking for a new keyboard too. I love my Microsoft 4000 Natural keyboard but want something different. Really considering the Logitech G19, I was going to get a G13 and keep my current keyboard but I can't see me using the G13 a lot. The G19 seems great but it might be a bit to much of a change for me to go back to a regular keyboard as I like the feel of my natural a lot.

don't want to deal with usb dongle and you get bluetooth freeze instead .. I'm not sure that's a good trade-off

    Care to elaborate?

I have an original DeathAdder from 2007 that still looks (and works) just fine. Keep in mind that when you buy a mouse for yourself, unlike the store display models, you'll be the only one touching it, not a thousand different hands every day. :p
I advise against the Logitech G-series keyboards. I've owned both versions of the G15, and I've used a G11...the keys all have a rather mushy feel to them; they don't have a satisfying tactile feedback to me.
Bluetooth isn't really made for gaming. There's wired mode for that.
Basically, with all Bluetooth mice (not just the Orochi, it's an inherent trait in Bluetooth itself), if you leave them still for a few seconds, they will go into a low-power idle mode, and when you move the mouse again, it takes a split second to reactivate, during which the cursor remains unresponsive.

It's really only an issue if you leave the mouse still for a few seconds at a time very often, something you probably won't be doing in most games anyway. Besides, the Orochi includes the 3-foot detachable cable for high performance gaming mode, as Bluetooth is just not ideal for gaming even at the best of times.

bluetooth freeze's just like Mastershroom said.
and I'm not talking about just gaming, but generally, in everyday use
--I mean, you'll need to get used to it but once you use a freeze-less mouse again, you realize that's a one step back IMHO --

Edit: I tried a cheap generic bluetooth mouse, and its sleep timeout even way better than orochi lol, I left it over a minute and it still goes without freeze.
so I wonder what the **** are the guys in razer thinking

I bought a Logitech G9x a few days ago and it is a great mouse. It's not huge while still being very comfortable. It's got every feature you could possibly want and great build quality.

Much better than any, in my opinion, overpriced and poorly built Razer mouse.

I'm tempted to buy the Logitech G9, I found a store selling it in Canada for $60. The Razer Mamba is my first choice right now but is $160 in Canada. I can't see it being worth $100 more than the G9. The G9x is $120 but goes on sale for $90 from time to time. Again I don't think I'd pay the extra for the G9x over a G9 since I won't go beyond the G9 dpi settings anyway. 2000 dpi is what I'd like.

Gonna wait and see how I like the Orochi before I bite on the Mamba but I might jump on the G9 in the mean time, what do you think? I'd just use it for desktop gaming, I think my MX Revolution will remain my primary non-gaming mouse.

If the Mamba is too much for you, go for the DeathAdder. It's the same shape, just wired and with a 3,500 DPI optical sensor.

And Razer mice are built quite well, you don't need to worry about the quality.

Remember, the G9 series caries a 3-year warranty. And on top of that Logitech is very good with handling issues while under warranty and even after sometimes. :)

for me razer products is solid built :)

i had my razer mamba which i love for about almost a year didn't seem that long but it is :) and it still performs like new and looks and i use the hell out of it usely when my hands touch stuff it turns the paint too shiny but with razer products that has never happen because rubber coating :)

than after that i bought the razer orochi for my laptops and had that about 6 or 7months i think and that's still going strong with no problems and looks new too.

my first razer product was the diamondback limited ed 1600dpi which i bought in 2006 well 2 of them sense i had too take the first one back sense someone decided too swing it around in circles lol so the wire got a short in so the new one is still going from 2007 too now. but i don't use it much now sense i got the mamba sense i wanted something faster and wireless.

the one logitech mouse well 2 i mean i liked before the mamba and orochi

was the mx 1000 which still works but is pretty worn but i got that back in 2004 lol but still works good but the battery is on its way out doesn't last a long time.

than the logitech VX Revolution which served me well for couple years till i got the orochi.

but again the paint has worn again on the vx.. but still works perfect.

so ya i prefer razer mouses over any other brands.

but right now for non mouse stuff i am enjoying logitechs g35 headset.

oh and enjoying the logitech z2300s 2.1s too :)

for keyboards i cant really say anything about razers sense i haven't used any keyboard from razer yet but i did have a mx3100 keyboard which came with the mx1000 which was nice but got worn over the years very fast...

right now im using hps wireless elite thin keyboard :) was using saiteks cyboard keyboard but wanted too switch for a bit and really don't like the wires on the cyboard too think and i already had too take one back from the wire dieing... other than that i like saiteks keyboards.

I just replaced my Razer Lachesis with a Roccat Kone and so far I'm very happy with it. Build quality is much solid than my previous Deathadder and Lachesis. It has a very good rubbery feel all over and you can add weights depending on your needs. I'm a gamer and it took me 2-3 weeks to really get used to the shape of Lachesis. This is my 3rd day using the mouse and I'm already used to it! If youre into games like wow you will enjoy this mouse with its 10 buttons (8 customizable for macros). Looks much better than my previous mouse and it has 5 customizable LEDs.

Here are some images I took with my roccat kone. I hope you dont mind.

even though i voted mamba and orochi, I personally wouldn't go for a mamba. The whole wireless thing is a nice touch, but considering this is for your PC it's not really necessary.

If I were you I'd go for a razer deathadder. I have one and it is the most comfortable mouse I've ever held, and I've tried the mamba. Deathadder all the way.

How long is the Deathadder's cable? I've been looking at this for my g73 that is coming soon, but I am worried the cable will be too long for a laptop mouse.

What are some good value for money laptop mice?

I enjoy MMOs as well as FPS.

The DeathAdder's cable is 7 feet, so it's got plenty of slack. If it's too long, you could always tie up the slack with a zip tie or rubber band to keep it out of the way.

An excellent choice for a laptop gaming mouse is the Orochi. It has a detachable cable that's only 3 feet long, and it can connect wirelessly via Bluetooth as well.

The Orochi looks very small though, I'm 6ft 4" and naturally have quite large hands. I also use the 'palm' grip type. I guess what I need is a desktop size gaming mouse with a short wire.

Might just rubber band the death adder.

Fair point. I just route the excess cable on my DeathAdder through one of my desk drawers. That way I can give it more or less slack when I need it.

Go for a Roccat Kone. Seriously.

I upgraded from a G9 to a Roccat Kone and it's even better than the brilliant G9 that I had. It's probably the best wired gaming mouse on the market, for right handers at least.

Roccat also do a very nice line of wireless mice, however I'm not too sure if they suit your needs.
