Having THX doesn't mean it is better than other speakers out there and vice versa, in most cases THX gives bragging rights. From what I hear literally, I have heard these speakers.

    Creative Gigaworks T20 2.0
    Klipsch 2.1 (older ones)
    Creative l3800
    Logitech z-2300
    Altec Lansing fx6021

They all sound decent, for 2.0-2.1 there isn't much difference, all have pros and cons. Nonetheless, I do like the sound of the Fx6021 better than the rest, though, the T20 isn't bad, weak due to 2.0 format but clarity for low and mids aren't bad, bass is lackluster.

z-2300 is good, but the bass overpowers everything, when you turn the bass down you can notice weakness in the body. Highs are ok, mids and lows are fine, but to some degree it sounds weak.

Creative, same thing with the z-2300 except, if you are a bass head, this won't provide you with much compared to the z-2300. It's there but, the z-2300 sub is better.

Klipsch, weren't so bad, overall the three are the same.

I like the fx6021 because it provided me which I think the best clarity, highs, mids, but lows were weak due to the sub. But, with a price tag of $249.00USD, it is not a huge improvement over the other three besides the 2.0.

So, they sound similar and many probably can't tell the difference besides the bass, so look buy what you think fits you, i.e. design, inputs, controls, features and what not. Even if there is a difference it is only marginal. If you want the best sound, I hear buying real speakers, bookshelves/theaters ones are the best, but those can be complicated or run the bill over $300.00USD. You might want to look at Edifier I hear they sound great but lack features i.e. headphone jack.

Mind you I am sure these sound better than cheaper 2.1 systems.
