I'm buying a Malibal Satori P170HM with 17.3" screen, and all my laptop cases max out at 17". The laptop comes with a bag of sorts, but I'm envisioning a messenger style bag as I have not seen it...

What I'm looking for is a sturdy backpack style bag that will easily fit this device without having to remove the liner and protecting it well, without breaking the bank or making me feel as if I'm carrying a bag full of bowling balls. Any ideas that will save me several hours of browsing a seemingly endless sea of options? I'm a pretty picky shopper, but this seems like a pretty picky crowd. :)

MASK-High-Five-Backpack is a very popular bag, as are many other Slappa products. NBR did a review on one of the original bags that claimed to be fireproof, and it was (if you ever plan on carrying your laptop through a burning building). Plus their customer service is second to none. I own two Slappa bags and would not hesitate to buy from them again.

Amazon.com: Mobile Edge 17.3" Alienware Orion ScanFast Checkpoint Friendly Backpack: Clothing The orion bag is another popular bag, although Alienware branded.

Alienware Deluxe Backpack Review Here is a review of one of the bags I use myself (or used to use). Very durable, simple and having a waist + shoulder strap = weightless.

Also check out Booq Bags for some very quality 17" backpacks.

I'm going to have to recommend the one I've been using for the past three years. It still looks brand new and functions like it did on day one. No broken zippers or rips in the bag. Once you handle the bag, you know it was built with quality. It doesn't use those cheap zippers that break after a year of use and the fabric in which it's made of is nice and thick. The padding for the laptop sleeve is nice and thick and lastly, it will carry everything you need.

In the end, remember. You get what you pay for.

Here is what I carry back and forth to work:

MSI 17" Laptop w/Massive Power Adapter
    Thermaltake 17" Notebook Cooler
    D-Link DIR 655 Router
Extra Work Uniform, socks and boxers
    Gaming Headset
    Razer Mouse Pad
    Logitech G700 Mouse
    Point and Shoot Camera
    Asus Transformer Prime Tablet
    Phone Charger
    External HDD
    HDMI Cable
