Sorry if the title is confusing.

I intend to purchase a new MacBook sometime before the holidays, likely after Leopard is released. My current laptop, an Inspiron 8200, is beginning to show its age with all the typical symptoms of a large, powerful, 4-5 year old laptop. Fan roaring, fire spewing, weighs a lot etc. So a MacBook it is.

As for the bag, I've been using an Eddie Bauer laptop briefcase that I absolutely adore. It has three main areas and then a small sequestered zipper area. The first compartment is the laptop compartment with padding and some extra space for a few zippers or a cable. The second compartment is a document section with a built in file organizer. I love it. The third compartment is unzippered and is really just an open space. I keep my thick books there. Then there's the small area for the pens and pencils and whatnot.

Only problem is I really dislike the weight distribution on one shoulder. So I'd like to get a backpack equivalent.

    So here's my ideal bag:

    Laptop compartment for smaller-ish computer.
    An organizer pocket for documents
    An open space for books.
A reasonably well compartmentalized area for little goodies. In here I'd like to keep 2 pens, 1 pencil, a small Moleskine notebook, a cheap reporter notebook (also small) a thin Japanese-English dictionary, an iPod and a Nintendo DS.

And so far I've been having a terrible time finding something that matches my needs. The Tom Bihn Brain Bag looks way too expensive, especially since the laptop padding is separate (unbelievable). But the Ogio Metroid looks almost perfect.

So my question is this. Is the Metroid THE bag, or are there alternatives to fit my needs well? Because if there are, I'm stumped.

The Samsonite Venue and Urbanite backpacks are options to consider.

I got the venue at buy.com for $30, i think the urbanite was about the same price

fits my dv9000t quite well and lots of little pockets for extra stuff too. quite roomy and decently cushioned IMO
