    Hello everyone,

I am looking for the ultimate mouse regarding the following factors:
    - Bluetooth
    - Possibility to charge it while playing using a usb cable
    - Not too big in the hand

I currently own a Razer Orochi, which suceeds at the first and third factor but fails at the second. I can play without interruption thanks to the usb cable, but it doesn't charge the mouse as it uses standard batteries. This is the closest I found regarding those three features. A notable contestant is the Logitech G700 as it succeeds at the second factor (which is the hardest of the three to succeed at) but fails at both the others as it requires an usb receiver and is too big for my liking.

Can you advice me in a mouse which would have all those features ? I currently failed at finding any.

    Thank you in advance,
    David

Sorry, doesn't exist. There are two "bluetooth gaming mice" in this world. There is the Orochi, like you have, and there is also the Mad Catz RatM, which is also a bluetooth gaming mouse, but it always uses bluetooth and has no cable. However, it is supposed to have very long battery life, so you wouldn't need to constantly charge it anyway. Unfortunately, gaming with it will be even worse than gaming with the Orochi since it will always be stuck using bluetooth.

    Hello,

Thank you for your answer, but I still have hope !
Does anyone here know about any other bluetooth mouse which has the charging while playing feature ?

Sorry mate but as Qing Dao pointed out the mouse you're looking for simply does not exist. No point in waiting for other answers that's a fact.

My advice to you would be either to get a wireless optical gaming mouse or to just simply forget about wireless altogether and pick a wired mouse. You'll find that both these options are far better than bluetooth as far as gaming is concerned.

Now if you have other specific reasons as to why you need it to be a bluetooth mouse that's another story. If that's the case then you'd better stick with the Orochi, there aren't any better alternatives.

Hmm ... XHABO M701L; BT, 1600dpi, USB-rechargeable while in use.

Kinda like the idea, and that for $15.20 ... not sure about the "ultimate", but wth, for that price ...

Thank you, I contacted the seller to know if it requires to plug a usb adapter or if it uses pure bluetooth just to be sure, because the main goal of using Bluetooth is to avoid using one usb port for the mouse.

@shea2812: That's definitely what I am going to do if the above mouse is not good enough or if I don't like it for whatever reason.

Thank you for your answers, especially for showing me that such a mouse even existed ! :)

I thought you wanted a "gaming" mouse. If all you want is a bluetooth mouse, there are a few out there which have such long battery life that plugging it in to charge would be ridiculous.

Don't want to jack the thread but I'm looking for something to replace my Logitech BT mouse with too since it lags like mad.. would this one be lag free? Anyone experience with this mouse on NBR? I don't really trust other places after my last BT mouse purchase as people said this mouse was lag free. I guess it's subjective anyways.

Also the Logitech has the horizontal scrollwheel left-right thing that doesn't get captured by VirtualBox so I bind virtual desktop (dexpot) previous/next desktop actions to those. Really handy working with multiple fullscreen VM's. How would I go about replicating this behavior? I never found anything like this, it seems this 'feature' is a 'bug' between VirtualBox and the mouse but I really like it :p I could use the 'forward' and 'backward' buttons on this mouse for that as I don't think it has a fancy scrollwheel.

@b6i6o6: Post the answer to your question here too please.

If your computer doesn't have bluetooth, you will need to buy an external adapter, so the mouse doesn't require you to use an adapter if you already have bluetooth.

Can I ask you guys something?

WHY IN THE NAME OF HELL DON'T YOU USE A WIRELESS MOUSE?

It will make your life much easier and less likely to have lag!

I'm going to buy a *device* with only 2 usb ports, and I'd like to use those for external HDDs. Hence I'd prefer to use bluetooth mouse rather than one requiring wireless dongle and USB hub, which will have to be powered in such a scenario. I really like Logitech mouse from MK220 combo. What good and cheap bluetooth mouse would you recommend? It shouldn't be mini or slim, and better use common replaceable battery(s) as power source.

The goal of having a bluetooth wireless mouse is to avoid wasting a usb port for the mouse. If I need to plug a usb adapter to use my usb mouse then I could just use a wired mouse. Besides, I think mice using an adapter are still using bluetooth as communication technology, but maybe you will correct me on this ?

If the mice were using bluetooth, they would be able to connect to another bluetooth device and not always have to rely on a dongle. Like most wireless devices, bluetooth and wireless mice all operate on the 2.4Ghz band, but the communication protocol is different. However, most wireless mice use chipsets that are fully compatible with bluetooth (I've taken them apart and looked at the datasheets).

You don't need to look for a mouse that needs to be plugged in to recharge.

Newer bluetooth mice can last a long time (months) on a standard AAA battery. Even the newer RF wireless gaming mice like the g602 can also last months on two high capacity AA batteries. I think the plug-in charging feature will be obsolete.

I've heard whispers that the Logitech Unifying thingies are using "bluetooth" with slight variation so Logitech can avoid paying royalties. Whispers may have been wrong though.
Works darn well if it really is BT though.

Sorry for the slight necro, but I want to share the final status on this as it may help someone out there.

That's what I finally did, and after months of testing I can tell you that I need to recharge the eneloops batteries once per month. These are standard Eneloops and not Eneloops Pro.

Thank you to anyone who answered in the thread and cared about helping me.
    Best regards,
    David

The reason you don't find any bluetooth mice that fit your criteria is because Blluetooth is actually a pretty poor mouse interface, due to the low polling rate (125Hz). The closest thing out there is a Razer Orochi. And even that mouse is really only a gaming-spec mouse in wired mode (4000dpi, 1000Hz polling rate). In Bluetooth mode, it's stuck with 2000dpi and 125Hz polling rate.

I think that you're doing yourself a disservice by trying to find a Bluetooth mouse. Don't fall into the trap of automatically thinking that Bluetooth must be the best, because it's newer. Again, Bluetooth is a pretty inferior connectivity method for mice, compared to USB.

In my opinion, the perfect mobile mouse is the Logitech M705 Marathon Mouse ( link) I've bought countless numbers of these mice over the years, for the multiple people in my life for whom I give computer advice. It's small. It's inexpensive. The performance is more than enough for desktop productivity use, and more than "good enough" for mobile gaming.

And it's BETTER than your 2nd criteria (charge via USB while in use), because it never needs to be charged. Ever. It can run for 3 years on a pair of AA alkaline batteries. I actually put a single Lithium AA battery in my Logitech Marathon mice (the mouse can operate off of just one AA battery), because it gives the mouse a lighter center-balanced weight profile compared to 2x AA Alkaline batteries.
