Hello folks!
For almost a year my IBM backpack has served me well ( this one).
However, we quite frequently have drizzle or regular rain, damping the top of my backpack. What concerns me is that the laptop is experiencing high humidity, as the fabric is not well impregnated. To add to my disappointment, the top lid is not padded - going through a door is always a challenge: it is so easy to bang the laptop lid against something!![]()
Hence my question: I am looking for a black (or dark single color) backpack that is:
* well-padded all around a 15,4" laptop (Thinkpad to be precise)
* weather-proof - it should not allow humidity, rather repell water/drops
* comfortable to wear for 30+ minutes each day
* well divided compartments. My current serves me well, for reference.
Should you know of or have one that fits the description, please give me a hint. Cheers!

Ha! Good luck...especially with color. It's unfortunate, but backpack manufacturers are sadly lagging far behind the rapidly expanding laptop industry. When it comes to all-weather/waterproof/etc. backpacks (especially larger desktop replacements), the field is even more sparse.
Maybe we should all write letter to mega backpack manufactures like Jansport, and insist they catch up to the times? -
I liked http://www.stmbags.com.au/products.php?id=30&name=medium_evolution_15&category=backpacks when I was buying my current bag. Unfortunately, my ASUS F3Sv is a "large" 15.4" laptop and didn't fit very well. I think a Thinkpad would be OK. I ended up with another STM bag (not listed on their site). This is my second STM bag and they are very good quality. I haven't had either in the rain much but I neither have let any water into the laptop.

I'm looking for a waterproof backpack as well. My only transportation is a motorcycle so sometimes I ride is some down pours in S Florida.
I need one that will fit an Asus G50vT which is a large 15" notebook. -

Just a thought, even if you do get a waterproof backpack, put the laptop in a plastic bag, then put it in the backpack.
You may also want to get a rain cover.
Here is a backpack that has a rain cover:

Its not too big, but it is well made. You could buy a padded laptop sleeve, and put that inside the backpack. -
i just bought a swissgear serge which i'm awaiting delivery. i'm not sure if it is waterproof though.
