I've been long overdue to get a new mp3 player since my old one died well beyond a year ago. However, I have no idea what's out there other than iPod. :p

My co-worker mentioned Creative the other day, and I've heard of the Zune, but I don't know much about them beyond their names. Overall I'm just looking for something with alot of space that can play both music and videos. I can get a discount on the ipod which is why I'm leaning towards the iPod Video (or is it called iPod Classic now?), but if there's anything better on the market, speak up and let me know. :)

Depends on what you wanted to use it for. Running? Flash is probably the best bet for you. Just a ton of videos/music OVER 16 GB, the 80 GB iPod classic is it for you.

If that's "way too much space" for that price, you could look at the new Sansa that's coming out next month.

8 GB for 150, 16 for 200. Great deal if you don't have that much stuff.

The Zune 30 GB for 200 is also good but I hear the Zune software is kinda eh...not that great.

I've used my cousins Zune, and it's software is plenty fine. The interface was easy to use, and everything. Only complaint is that ripped movies not native to the resolution look a little bad. Other than that, it's great.

Wait a couple of months and see what else comes out for the holiday season. I've got a Zen VM, but it's a bit dated now. The replacement Zen is flash only and maxes out at 16GB where as my ZVM is 30GB. I think I might self upgrade it to a larger capacity when this one goes kaput.

The iTouch looks pretty sweet, but not large enough capacity for me and too pricey.

Ok, here's the options I'd go with. For flash based I'd get the Cowon D2. For hard drive based I'd get the Cowon A2. Both of which have sound quality which are better than anything mentioned above, except maybe the iriver. The Cowon A2 has the best battery life in its class, it supports most all of the common video codecs, and supports most of the music formats as well. I own a A2 and am completely happy with it, I'm yet to try the D2 but I hear plenty of good things about it.

get the zune. i've tried all 3 pmp's (ipod, creative zen vision m, and i own a zune) and i have to say the zune is by far the best out of all 3. it has a bigger, better screen, better controls (IMO), better UI (IMO), and looks nicest (IMO). only downside is the zune software isnt as good as itunes but thats not a big deal at all.
