I am considering getting notebook/laptop insurance from Safeware, because my notebook's warranty excludes coverage for accidental damages and theft. I recently purchased an ASUS G1 (which was over $1900). Since I'm relatively new to notebook insurance, I need some assistance in getting the right amount of coverage. Does one need to request the $1900+, or a smaller amount? I would greatly appreciate it, if someone would help me out here. :D

    Dear CB600,

Check with your home insurance broker for this kind of coverage.

They can sell you specific coverage to your requirements.

As for the amount to cover it for, the insurance companies charges a certain amount per $100 of declared value.

I have been insuring my notebook computers and PDA phone with my home insurance company for over 9 years now. (I'll touch wood, never had a claim).

For my new LG S1 notebook ($2,750CDN) and my PDA Phone ($800) to have multiple risk coverage (Theft, Lost, Accidental Damages, etc.) along with professional use (I use my notebook and PDA Phone for my job) it cost me $190CDN per year.

I know tha my PDA phone can be purchased for less with a 2/3 year cell phone contract but I had it insured for the full replacement value without a contract.

It is usually cheaper to deal with your home insurance broker.

    Best regards

    frenchnew

i ensure my camera equipment through my home insurance broker as well (state farm). lugging about $7,000~$12,000 of equipment around on a daily basis, insurance is a must. i'm sure laptop insurance will work the same.
