I'm looking to buy a surround sound (up to 7.1) headset (that is, headphones and a mic... just to be certain). I want the quality of the mic to be decent, but I'm also trying to get good sound quality. I'm tryna spend under 100 bucks, though moreso towards under 75 bucks. I've been browsing newegg for a bit, and I've come across multiple USB headsets that have 5.1 surround sound, though there have been mixed reviews about USB headsets. I don't know too much about headsets and whatnot, but apparently people dislike the USB connection for headsets. And also, I'd rather have a headset that covers over my ears instead of hanging on them like the Logitech ones.

I'll be using these to listen to music, watch movies, and occassionally game (and when I do I'll be in ventrilo, hence the need for a mic). I'd rather have decent mic quality than a headset that is basically headphones with a horrible mic. I've checked out the eDimensional AudioFX Pro 5+1 with Force Feedback and the Tritton TRI-AI712 models online; those appear to be the style that I'm looking for.

Can someone provide me feedback, reviews, thoughts, concerns, anything?

I would disregard the claims with regards to 5.1 being superior for gaming - a stereo can with some dolby surround processing running on your computer does just as well if not better ($75-100 can bring you something like Equation RP21, although that is a headphone, not a headset). Generally if you want to get quality for your money, buy a microphone separately (you only need like a $7 one for ventrilo). Spend good buget on headphones, and if you want it to be a headset - little bit of work with your hands and you can attach your mic to one of the cups

Or you can be neater, get a creative gaming audiocard (they have great processing to use for gaming with stereo), and grab a Koss UR-40 headset. Just a different split of the budget to get the job done well.

Well, the thing is I want to make use of the surround sound card in my notebook, and speakers aren't going to do the trick because I can't lug speakers with me everywhere I go, and quite frankly, I don't have enough room to setup an elaborate speaker system. Regardless, I would rather watch my movies without disturbing other people, and I don't think gaming works well on a computer with speakers.

I said 'stereo can'... translation: 2 channel headphone.
