Like the title suggests, I'm looking for a low-cost, responsive, wired or wireless, non ball, mouse.
I prefer it to be under $20, and not bluetooth [bluetooth mice drain notebook battery since bluetooth must be active]. I also want it to be portable and have at least 3 buttons [left, right, scroll wheel/click wheel].
The reason I'm asking is that I am weary of the mice options of the CTO accessories page on the HP website when configuring a laptop. I'm looking at the HP Laser Mobile Mouse right now and I'm not sure if it's good or not.
Open to suggestions and TIA.

For gaming, the cheapest thing I can recommend is the Logitech MX518, which I've seen in the vicinity of $30. There's also the original 1,800 DPI Razer DeathAdder, which might fall into your budget if you can find one. The new 3,500 DPI model can be found for under $50.

I don't own one personally, but people praise it all the time. I like my G9.. -
OK...I recommended the X5 above, and even though Ive never owned one I DO own the X8...which is BY FAR the best mouse Ive EVER used...
What mouse have I used you may ask? Well, off the top of my head Ive used the MX 518 (what everyone here and their mom is saying to get), the Logitech G9 and G9x, Razer Deathadder, Razer Mamba (way overpriced for what it is...), and much more...just cant remember them all...and I can without doubt say that the X8 is by far the most comfortable Ive ever used and the performance is just phenomenal!
That is why I have recommended the X5...its cheap, good performance, and if its ANYTHING like the X8, its a solid gaming device. PLUS the side buttons being on top of each other is the most GENIUS thing EVER and I have no idea why its not in any other mouse...if youre anything like me, trying to effectively use both side buttons on any other mouse (side-by-side) is a bit of a pain...as your thumb may rest easily on one of the buttons...but the other one is either too far up or too far back...the X5/X8 solve this...I just dont know what to say...theyre awesome mice. Plus, if you are willing to spend a little bit more you can get the X8 on eBay for around $50...best purchase Ive ever made...I personally paid $45 for mine with free shipping...
In either case, I hope you are happy with whatever mouse you pick up...but like I said, basing my opinion from my X8 the X5 will be an exceptional mouse for the price...especially(!) if gaming is a big concern. -
If you can find a Logitech G9 now (or maybe the G9x) it'd be very cheap. Most likely not $20 cheap, but the extra cost is well worth it. Mine's highly durable, I have upgraded to a Roccat Kone but my brother's now using my old G9 and it's been working perfectly for the past 3 years, and still is. Grip is still perfect, the base is still perfect, and it still works as good as ever, and thanks to the protection on the wire it is hard to damage.
Just as a note there are only 3 differences between the G9 and G9x: maximum sensivity (3200dpi on the G9, 5000dpi on the G9x); cost; and the 'x' at the end of the name. -
I think you guys are shooting over my hoop, lol. Though the mice you guys mentioned look very nice but they are a tad too expensive and I think they kind of overdo it for me. It doesn't have to be a gamer mouse (I've gamed fine on one of the Microsoft mini mouses), I just want it to work fine and as a bonus be adequate for gaming. Gaming is the secondary thing, actual work is what I primarily care for. I guess I'm looking for a "consumer mouse"?
-
The prolem is you're really not going to get a mice designed with gaming in mind for under $20, and as gamers wouldn't be using mice under $20 most of us can't really say how good they are for gaming.
It could help point us to a recommendation if you posted more information about what you want, such as if you'd prefer wired or wireless, if you want it to be small or large, if you want any level of sensivity in particular, etc... -
then the logitech mx mentioned earier is probably the best bet for you.
-
I was even trying to find a used last-gen gaming mouse and they are ~$40...
Edit: That X5 link looks like your best bet, though like the poster, I've never used it myself. -
I understand if you guys don't know much about the lower level mice, if I cannot be helped I'm sure the HP mouse will work just fine for me. I'm just want to be sure that such lower level mice aren't reputably buggy or unreliable or something. -
so my question is, why would u not get a great "gaming" capable mouse for $23 bucks and go for a cheapo $20 one?
-
I clicked the link and it says it's $27.84 after rebate? =/
It looks like a really good mouse though. I'm debating whether to screw my low budget plan and just get it. But I feel bad doing that especially considering the financial pinch I am in right now. -
why don't u go to bestbuy or something and check out that sidewinder x5 mouse and see how u like it. if it's as good as described then that should be a $25 very well spent. -
What about this one?
